England Cricket 2024

Crawley bad shot
Pope bad shot because he doesn't trust his defence
Brook either missed the line of the ball or completely lost his bearings in relation to his stumps. Or both.

Even Root should arguably have got forward.

I like Smith. He admitted he was lucky when he was interviewed.

Two day test match? England skittle them before lunch, add another 100, and have the evening session to bowl out Pakistan.

Not quite, but it's a test match ticking along quite nicely. Very finely poised; 90 behind, 3 wickets left - one good partnership (a la 9th wicket in the last test) would see them close to parity, but a 50 run England lead could well be match winning - cliche alert, batting 4th is going to be hard going.

Rehan Ahmed has been impressive, comsistently threatening and the odd ball is really gripping in the surface and turning.

Meanwhile NZ has knocked India off cheaply again and are looking at a first ever series victory there on a turning wicket

Saud Shakeel playing this very well. This partnership will be crucial for Pakistan. Anywhere near or past England’s total swings the game back in their favour

Pope shits the bed again. No one saw that coming

Could be worse. We could be getting obliterated at home ((India))

Pope needs to be dropped.

As for India. I'd dump Rohit. I mean getting rolled by the NZ attack again and again. We aren't talking about the strongest attack there. Santner with 7 wickets. Surely those guys know how to play spin by now. Santner's a decent T20 bowler but not a 7 wicket test bowler.

On a brighter note, India's reliance on spinning wickets is backfiring on them.

Agree that Santner isn't the greatest so losing 7 wickets to him is careless. In the report earlier from Prakash on TMS, he was clearly disgusted by India's batting. Doesn't think it's a bad wicket, and NZ's 450-15 so far suggests the same.

I'd like all countries to be attempting to produce wickets that are likely to give at least four-day test matches. There should be a directive saying as much. Fine to make the pitch suit your bowlers, but pitches that you know from the start are likely to produce three-day tests are no good.

That said, the NZ-India match is perhaps not a reflection on a bad wicket. India might do much better second innings, but NZ already lead by 300. If they can push that past 350, they've got to be heavy favourites.

Scrambled minds. Stokes offering no shot. Smith dancing down the wicket.

Big questions around Crawley and Pope yet again.

England have lost 3 of their last 4 matches. All the talk of the Ashes and preparing players and selection for it has confused matters. Need to get back to winning and preparing for every series.

Well he's doing something right as he's got 5 of the 7 second innings wickets so far too.

Yes this post is designed to avoid England's shitshow. Never mind lads, NZ away next.

Santner is definitely a strange one. Highly valued by the franchises. But almost looks like he's just trundling in. Averaging 38 or something? But you're right. Let's not mention England.

13 in the match now. He had never had a test four-fer before this match, which is his 29th.

I think it is good for cricket for India to lose at home. First home defeat since England 12 years ago.

However, I watched yesterday's highlights, and India's batting was shocking. Kohli heaved across a full toss and missed it completely.

Questions will be asked about the likes of Kohli and Sharma. Saddens me to say it but Kohli's test form is in serious decline. Sharma too, and he's 38 so may be near the end.

All-rounder Jacob Bethell called up for England’s Test tour of New Zealand

Jacob Bethell the new face for the NZ test series. Another they're picking on talent and potential more than anything he's actually done so far I think, but that's not necessarily the worst thing. Lack of all rounders is a definite problem so it makes sense from that point of view.

Slightly surprising they're taking all three spinners from the Pakistan tests.

Also Jordan Cox keeping wicket. Looks increasingly like Foakes is done doesn't it.

The three spinners thing is weird, makes no sense.

Nobody minds Jamie Smith now but that doesn't mean Foakes wasn't treated badly. My understanding is he 'didn't fit in' because he was quiet and refused to play golf. Which all looks a bit 'boy's club'-ish.

England 209 all out (45.1 overs)
West Indies 61 - 0 (12.0 overs)

I like this format, too :)

With India we were insulated from the actual play by losing in the early morning before we woke up.

With West Indies we lose at night after we go to sleep

I think England finally has this sorted
