The churn of the England test side over the last 18 months, I feared, would disrupt the cultivation of a solid team mentality. Kohli’s behaviour on the pitch and in the Lords Long Room seems to have done the work a team of sports psychologists couldn’t. Long may it last.

Telegraph Sport understands there were tense scenes in the Lord’s pavilion after the third day’s play ended, prompted by Jasprit Bumrah’s continual short pitched bowling and 10-ball over at England No 11 James Anderson.

The players were pictured arguing as they left the playing field but the rows carried on in the Long Room, which was packed with India officials, support staff and squad players, who gave their team a rousing reception as they walked inside.

Joe Root, who had just scored a brilliant unbeaten 180, and Virat Kohli are believed to have exchanged words on their way to the dressing rooms as the situation threatened to escalate before tempers cooled.

Just seen the highlights. Good toss to lose, Anderson & co exploited the swing perfectly. India as clueless as we were over there on those spinning wickets.

120-0 wasn't achieved without a few bits of luck and chances though. Burns never looks in. Hameed had a lot of luck but played some nice shots.

I thought it looked like one of those days when everything goes right for you. Buttler getting the first five nicks kinda suggests that too.

Incredible day.
