England Cricket 2021

Pope looks great. As everyone says, the spit of Ian Bell. That's what's frustrating about him. Dunno about Sibley. He needs to produce something soon for sure. And Crawley can't dine out on his double last year for much longer either.

don't think going back to Bairstow is the answer. His form in the last 3-4 of years in tests is awful. Stokes and Buttler will come back, so one of these will step aside anyway.

I agree, though, that Pope's been given every chance. If England were a stronger team, I'd say drop him now and ask him to go and make runs at county level with a view to bringing him back later.

Aye, Bairstow in the last few years has been shit but that is arguably due to being moved around up the batting order. He makes his runs in the lower order.

Hameed was called into this squad so isn't playing for Notts right now. That strikes me as a rather self-defeating thing to have done. Burns' form in CC has translated into test runs.

Ah bollocks. I was watching with a 10 minute (two piss breaks) live pause.

Outstanding from Burns and Anderson.

Ace review. I wouldn't have done it. Thought it was way over the top of leg.

This is why I'm not playing for England

How many non scores do these alleged batsmen have to record before Haseeb Hameed gets a go?

I'm going to stick this here even though its unrelated to test cricket.

I've spent a really enjoyable afternoon watching Twickenham v North Middlesex on Twickenham Green, Monty Panesar is turning out for Twick (rumours of brown paper envelopes abound) and he was really approachable, had a chat with him on the boundary. The lads form North Middx were just the same. They had a chap who steamed in and bowled a great spell but was chatting with us on the boundary about feeling old and drinking too many pints down the years.

It reminded me of what is great about cricket, its all so approachable and whatever the standard...it's still cricket on the green.

Another test hundred for Rory Burns in which he rode a fair bit of luck. That does always seem to be the way with him, but well done. He stuck at it during the mayhem this morning, so earned his luck later on to an extent.

Massive shame about losing a day. This match would still be brilliantly poised with two days to go.

That Williamson lbw was a strange one. Live it didn't look anywhere near out. Robinson definitely didn't think it was out. Hey ho.

I wouldn't be surprised to see England bowled out in under 60 overs here. Therefore their best bet is to keep taking wickets and slowing the scoring. The less overs we face the better.

Pope is Ramprakash, and I'll keep saying it. He hasn't got it in the mind.

Lawrence may continue to play some crap shots, like Pieterson, like Gower. But I think he has class underneath.

Well done Burns. Sigh. Another century (ha! as if there's been a lot) where he rode his luck. But I am beginning to think what's the alternative anyway. Same with Sibley.

And Robinson is good. At cricket. But if some of you want to cast him off as supposedly the racist in the team (a team of what? revolutionary socialists? This is cricket, and that was an 18 year old on twitter) then I'll leave that up to you.

Speaking of Ramprakash, I find his commentary is a bit like his batting. At the start of play yesterday, he was talking about how England will have been pleased to have lost a day as it makes defeat less likely. Two wickets down and 250-odd behind isn't a desperate situation at all. I found that an oddly negative thing to say.

I agree that Robinson is good. Anderson and Broad just three wickets between them so far in this match. Broad's been unlucky, has to be said, but not a vintage display from those two. Even with Archer out for the summer, there could be some interesting selection decisions vs India.

I didn't hear that but yes, it is incredibly negative thinking if that's exactly what he said. But any follower, anyone on here, could have seen, based on past performance as well as the match state, that it was hurting NZ more not to play. Which is perhaps what he should have said.

Anyway, what is this rain and drizzle you lot are having in London? They should play all these games in Wales.

And it's definitely about time now. England aren't chasing 270-odd in a run chase. With Burns and Sibley opening?

I'd like to see it. But we won't. We need people taking their time. Not chasing stupid wide balls. Crawley.

Fair play to NZ for declaring. Their good sportsmanship really shows up the Aussies for being the weird braying penises they are.

About to be dropped for a bowler who told an opposition batsman to "go back to your own fucking country", then denied it happened and has never apologised.

Yep against Sussex (I support Sussex) and Ashar Zaidi. There's plenty of it about in cricket but I think we need to start at the top and address the institutional racism that has seen black talent given less and less chance over the last two decades.

Lots of talk on TMS about going for this. England have 40 overs to survive. That's how I read it.

Crawley out driving for 2 twice.
