England Cricket 2021

Fucking twat. You would have thought that getting an England cap might have made him review his social media posting history or the ECB might have had a look/word.

Still, a good opportunity to make an example and get rid of him. He was only keeping a seat warm for one of the proper players anyway and frankly he looks like a dick.

If he sorted out his racist shit before the end of his teenage years and has demonstrated this I don’t think that should end his England career. It’s important to have a path away from racism. If we cut off this opportunity it will just increase the problem.

To do most professional jobs these days you're expected to have gone through your SM with a fine-tooth comb and removed anything even potentially dodgy. This little prick is representing his country ffs.

Not like you can hide behind deniability If you've put #racist in your fucking tweets either.

Is it the usual “sorry that I was caught being racist” defence?
He explicitly says that the tweets were inexcusable.

Whoever it is that placed these in the news today certainly wasn't acting in the interests of combatting racism, though. They were timing it to create a nice big story. 'County cricketer said something racist nine years ago' isn't a national story. 'Test star said something racist nine years ago' is. The mechanics of that are also pretty depressing.

Loving the TMS discussion about "Schrödinger's duck" where an opening, facing bat is dismissed for a Golden by being stumped off a wide ball; recorded as 0 for 1 off 0 balls.

The batsman having faced a ball and yet no balls simultaneously! :D

Sky were filling with an interesting documentary on the tour of India in 1993 where everything that could go wrong did go wrong.

And there's the  you were waiting for Puddy -- Bracey for a duck

Is that the last three wickets for no runs...?

That shot of Dan Lawrence’s was proper village 2nd XI stuff. I’d be surprised if he plays another test match.
Well they're likely to get another go this match first, so he will probably get the chance to make amends. But yes, awful. As was Crawley's shot.

Some of these are racking up a few matches now, too. Pope's modest 31 average is from 17.5 matches. Sibley's 29 is from 18.5 matches. They're not newbies anymore.

I've just watched the dismissals.

Root got a good one first ball. Not too much to say about that. Shit happens.

Pope got a good ball but at Southee's pace, disappointing to miss it.

Lawrence  Fucking hell. Bat was angled towards midwicket.

Bracey. Good ball tbf, nipping up the hill, but disappointing not to at least make the umpire make a decision.

Pope’s been given the very best chance to prosper. Privileged with constant No. 6 spot and no chatter or briefing against him…which contrasts with Moeen and Jofra’s treatment.

I’d sooner have Bairstow at No. 6. As for Sibley, a decision needs to be made by the end of this series so any replacement can face India.
