All feels a bit weird seeing the ECB, FA and Premiere League claiming the mantle of 'protectors of multiculturalism', whilst simultaneously being under attack from the 'modern' Conservative Party as being cultural Marxists. When corporate sport thought they'd have a go at emerging from their own racist past, bet they never knew the shark infested waters they'd be swimming in.

I wonder how many people the ECB employ who went on blood money rebel tours of apartheid south africa when grown adults?

Simon Hughes on his podcast was insistent Robinson should be fined and that’s it. Noting Hughes admitted in his book A Lot of Hard Yakka, that he would have taken the money to play apartheid South Africa if offered.

Not much of an admission when he played for Northern Transvaal in the early 80s.

England go all pace again, but this time with two genuine speedsters. No spinner again. Hmmm.

All change for NZ. Shame about Williamson missing out. They do pick the specialist spinner.

It's hot and sunny again. England might regret their choices. Mark Wood batting at no. 8!

I think Root increasingly fancies himself as being able to carry a bit more of the bowling weight. IIRC there was a fitness issue which meant he was limited in how much he could bowl but maybe that's cleared up.

He's not a terrible bowler, but he betrays his part-time nature by the amount of full tosses/half trackers he sends down. Not really able to tie up an end on a flat pitch.

I've just looked up Patel's stats. He's got 20-odd wickets at a decent low-30s average, but at home he hasn't taken a single wicket in three matches. (Tough place to be a spinner.) But he has sent down 49 overs conceding just 100 runs. He's done a holding job.

Yeah he's definitely not first spinner class but then those issues have been there for most of the players who have been picked for that role since Swann. Leach maybe not so much but he still has his limitations. It's not that I think he'd pick himself to lead the attack on a spinning pitch but that him feeling more confident is part of the decision to leave out the spinner in the last couple of matches.

I like the fact that after spending the first game being patronised by the commentators as basically a warm-up for England for the bigger series ahead, NZ then decide to send out their B side against our mighty boys for the next match :D

I'd be pissed off if I was in the crowd mind you.

Looking at the players who've come in, two of them would walk into the England team - Boult coming back, and Blundell, who was unlucky to lose his place to Conway. And I'd probably rather have a look at Patel than Santner. I'm sure Watling was desperate to play given he's about to retire, and I'm also sure NZ would have wanted to give Williamson the chance to score runs before the WTC final. I'd be disappointed Jamieson has been rested, but I think that could be my only complaint.

Jamieson looks like he could be a man mountain box office, so yes I'm disappointed not to see him in this one. Call me cynical but I'm not sure how serious Wiliamson's injury is. He's in cotton wool.

And looking at the sides, Jamieson would have balanced NZ out. Wood and Wagner listed as the two number 8s. That's two diplodocus tails battling one another.

Crawley is rapidly getting to the point where they'll have to shift him out isn't he. How long can you live on one great innings?

Hameed needs re-introduced to the team in case he’s needed in Oz. Crawley will be back but needs to be put out his misery. Pope should be jettisoned too for Bairstow…as long as the latter has sorted out his main weakness.

Is this the end of Bracey's England career? I feel terrible for the lad. I really do. What an awful feeling. You've got one shot, because of freak circumstances, and you fluff your lines.

Just watched all the wickets. Root's was a pretty good ball. Sibley's also I guess.

But the rest? Crawley played with a diagonal bat. Never good - looked like a tailender. Pope disappointing - sucker dismissal really. Burns - set up maybe, but still out driving a wide one. Bracey? What can you say? Is it Trent Boult's birthday?
