Charlottesville aftermath discussion thread...

I think I've muted everyone you're "talking with," but I can guess, and I wouldn't bother trying to debate. Wasted too much time at it myself. Rigid views and a passionate hatred of "liberals" is something they share with right wing Trump fans. Oh, and despite growing up white and working class in a rural, white, working class community, apparently I don't know jack shit about white, working class Americans and shouldn't be on the boards.

Watch what happens when they sniff I've popped back on the thread, bless. :D

Don't let the bastards grind you down. They're impotent with rage and have to lash out at someone. The working class is a sacred cow and no criticism is tolerated. Whereas everyone else are evil liberals and must be put down.

The embarrasaing bit is that the brave people who stood up to the nazi fools at Charlottsville were most likely from all walks of life. I wonder what would have happened if the loud folks here tried their divisive hectoring there on the day?

I get that the ideology of libreralism or neoliberalism is insidious and is just as bad as the clowns running the WH but the hatred and vitriol directed to ordinary people who might not identify as socialist will never result in new converts. No extendingthe hand of friendship or finding commonground. Just hate.

You get a lot of stick here that I don't think you deserve, so just saying that I agree with you entirely. I bet lots of, if not most, of the people at Charlottesville identified as or had in the past identified as liberals. Liberal is an incredibly broad category and it isn't right to conflate right wing economic liberalism with social liberals or people who are viewed as a bit wishy washy or soft in their politics. Which definitely happens, people will say liberalism is Pinochet in one breath and Guardian reading vegans in the other as if these are the same people.

Rimbaud, there comes a time when you have to take a side. If those residents of Charlottesville who identify as liberal did nothing as this shit was going on in their town, then my sympathy for them evaporates. This was happening here, not some other place, here in your streets. What did you do about it?

The rest is just stupid. I don't see anyone having a go at people for protesting in the wrong way.

I'm not having a go at anyone for protesting in the wrong way, I just think the hating on liberals is counter-productive.

just to confirm, you've smeared people as racist repeatedly and put those who pulled you on it on ignore. This is literally what has happened. It is indeed a sad state of affairs, but I suppose a few more :D smilies will cover it. And you've never tried to debate, thats why you can't see half the people on the threads you shit up, you put them on ignore. Like all the great debaters of our time.

How typical, a liberal who is illiberal with regards to different facts and opinions that don't conform to your little liberal bubble. No wonder you liberals are on the retreat, politically speaking, the world over.

You might as well put me on ignore. Fuck it, why don't you put everyone on ignore and stick to having conversations with yourself!

1) I don't believe this ever happened, it's another figment of your imagination.

2) For the fucking hundredth time, liberals called anti-fascists as bad as Nazi's, liberals (including yourself and your great friend CRI) smeared people as racists/sexists, liberals declared it "illegitimate" to criticise a former president for taking 600,000 pieces of silver because he's black, liberals attacked any move to force Labour or the Democrats left as racist/sexist. Take the fucking beam from your eye.

I did not call antifa as bad as the nazis. Take that back.

In fact, I have repeatedly commended them as brave for standing up to nazi scum. And I am not a liberal.

I am someone who wants to see unity, of all humankind. Before we implode as a species.

What are you talking about? I never said you did.

You've repeatedly dismissed class as anything other than an identity, that's very much within the liberal philosophy.

Sigh. Do you think urban would be better off purged of its "liberal" elements? Then the socialists can get on with the plan on their own terms without the annoyance of being inclusive? Is it worth reaching out to a wider audience or is it better to keep it in house with the chosen few?

I'm only half joking with that question, btw.

The first sentence you've quoted was a series of sub-clauses, separated by commas. You've chopped it half way through so as to give a misleading impression of what was said. I don't accuse you of doing so dishonestly; I think you just don't comprehend.

Undoubtedly, this place would be better without the likes of you and CRI.

Well, why not get the gang together and organise a leafleting campaign, petition or whatever tickles your fancy.

Or, easier still - put me on ignore so you don't have to suffer opinions that make your nose wrinke.

Because, even putting you on 'ignore' doesn't prevent you turning threads to shit. It just makes them difficult to follow, too.

I don't have any problem with differing opinions per se, so much as the tiresome repetition of ill- thought-through, uninformed, and largely nonsensical ones that prevent any meaningful discussion of important topics.

That's exactly how I feel about your posts. See how much in common we have?

I was quite happy to discuss the aftermath of Charlottsville but it's far easy for the gang to pile in with the ad hominems.

Rather than have a discussion. We almost got there, too. There was some very interesting stuff about redneck revolt.

Here's something that caught my eye
Before violent rally, Charlottesville officials faced backlash over 'militarized' policing

In July, the council was berated at length by activists and residents angered by what they saw as a militarized response to the KKK rally.

“We have profound concerns with the militarized law enforcement presence on July 8, with police wearing riot gear, driving armored vehicles and carrying weapons typically reserved for war zones,” said Mary Bauer, the executive director of the Legal Aid Justice Center and one of a dozen speakers to criticize the city’s handling of the KKK rally.

Is that what led to far right blokes carrying a month later?

Why are you on about Redneck Revolt? Aspects of their politics are similar to those of posters you cry about here. Particularly on class.

I brought up the organisation a few pages back. There was the beginnings of a conversation about it. Why are you complaining about that?

Or is trying to keep on topic off limits, now?

.
The clause referring to you was after the comma. This is it:

"liberals (including yourself and your great friend CRI) smeared people as racists/sexists"

Subject: liberals including yourself.
Verb: smeared.
Object: people.

This clause is clearly differentiated from the preceding one.

In the clause you are confusing this one with we have:

Subject: liberals (not identified).
Verb: called [object] as bad as Nazis.
Object: anti-fascists.

so sorry that the bleeding obvious has had to be pointed out

Thanks danny but I'm not aliberal and if you mean I smeared people as racists, that was my overeaction to Brexitone year ago. For which I have at least a doszen times now said I got it wrong.

I respect your input on this and most threads and I don't wist any beef.

It's not an ad hominem to point out you have no knowledge or understanding of the issues about which you're posing.

"You are a fucking idiot." sounds a wee bit like an adhominsem to me,tbf. Do you fully comprehend every nuance, every single happening of what went down in Charlottsville that day? Of whom attended, their stance and why they felt passionate about the issues at ahand?

No, of course not. But nor do I think your witterings add any value to my understanding.
