Mung beans and sandals is an anti-liberal/green trope rather than an anti-left one.

Well, at least you know who you're lampooning so devastatingly. You presumably also know that most people can't tell the difference and use it interchangeably to describe both the Loony Left and the Woolly Liberals. I'd have thought that that, along with its age, made it pretty creaky and hackneyed as a way of satirising anyone....

Anyway, the rest of my post stands.

The problem is that people think the left are wooly liberals, that's why the left may sometimes be given the mungbean cuss. The best way to disabuse people of that notion is for us to call liberals/greens mungbean sandal wearing joss stick cunts at every opportunity in order to differentiate ourselves :)

Mung beans and Sandals is Liberals/Greens, the anti-Left trope is Donkey jackets and groups who could fit in a phobe box having endless discussions - and spectacular fallings out - on Marxist doctrine.

i can assure that i do know the difference, and in my experience most people with even the vaguest understanding of politics know the difference.

What's it like in the early 80s in 2014?

Well in spite of my holding my nose and voting Labour I've still got three LD's as councillors. They got a battering in Southwark overall but they seem to have a lock on up in the north of the area. Can't find the votes cast per candidate so don't even know if we got close but LDs down from 25 to 13 across the borough:BoVrTk8CIAAygMP.jpg

Well, even if I had held my nose and voted Labour it wouldn't have made a difference in my ward.
The Lib Dem won the seat with a large majority and *******UKIP came 2nd!

Himself and I are 2 of only 113 people who voted TUSC

Drumming fingers waiting for Tower Hamlet mayor results - counting seems to be getting slower in London.

Either there's a recount going on or your Council aren' t very efficient. Should be posted by now.
I think it's likely the Council is useless, they don't have the votes cast in any ward and I can't find them elsewhere.

I think the website might be faulty. When I first posted it I did look at one ward, and it did have the results, but now they have gone. Maybe too many hits.

Robert Webb, ('guesting' in the NS), explains that, in failing to vote against UKIP, the 29 DNV (&17 spoilers?) at the top of the page have 'let the side down' will not be listened to....

Ukip trades in the language of fear and division; it seeks power in order to reject responsibility. Putting a cross next to a box for Ukip is a pastime for people who like elections but don’t much care for democracy. If you vote Ukip, you’ve been had. And if you don’t vote at all – by all means complain about the consequences but don’t be surprised if no one listens. “What would sir like to eat?” “I’ll just have what everyone else is having.” “What if sir doesn’t like it?” “Well, at least that won’t be my fault.”

Well Robert, to run with your awfully bourgeois metaphor...some of us don't like the restaurant, being served by others or don't like eating out at all; cooking yourself and sharing the food with others is much nicer pal.
