I suppose it shows what people do to make these dogs really nasty.
I saw a documentary on it years ago and don't feel the need to see it again.
On the grounds that owning a dog is more responsibility than the majority seem to be able to actually handle, maybe the answer is to only allow ownership of a dog once you have passed a rigorous testing procedure. Akin to the driving test, only this one would be a rigorous testing procedure.

Re spaniels: Frankie is a really sweet cocker spaniel who bit someone on the leg quite badly for no apparent reason before he came to me. He was supposed to be a gun dog but was gun shy and I think he was mistreated when they were trying to 'persuade' him. I wouldn't trust him with kids and he's still only really tiny (14 kg).

In the 2 years prior to 2020 there were only 4 deaths (all bulldog things).

There’s a lot of money to be made these days in breeding American bullies and suchlike. I mean proper silly money if you can get a big ole litter each year for virtually no work at all . Only downside is mauling of family members. Headlines are about deaths but the amount of attacks in some areas mean taking your pooch got a walk is a risky business. The owners are usually twats interestingly

I don’t know that there is much debate to be had here. Some think that some dog breeds should be illegal. Others think that trying to make specific breeds illegal isn’t practically feasible. Well, you have to ask yourself why anyone would need a dog like that? The answer is that it's usually to do with ego (or lack thereof). I do make exceptions for people who have rescued these dogs from fighting rings, etc.
