Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

Russia now saying that they did not hit drone?
"враньё". Vranyo - a special kind of blatant lying where you - essentially - defy the other to call you out on it.

It is interesting, some of the things Russian has words dedicated to :). But then they'd probably say that, with some justification, about English, too.

I went on a search for Russian terms for "lying", and came across "туфта́" - which is a word which means "cheating on quotas" ;). Your vanilla-flavoured classic lie is called "ложь" (lozh).

They hit it's propellor .. what are they themselves immune from damage?

Flanker, innit? 20 tons of Siberian titanium. They probably just shoved the wing tip rail into the MQ-9's prop which is made of carbon fibre and would have disintegrated immediately.

It does show how this thing can escalate in stupid and unpredictable ways as Biden is sleepwalking us into WW3.

Russia ambassador to US tells Washington 'stop flying near Russian borders'

The state-owned Russian news agency Tass is carrying some additional quotes from Moscow’s ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, in which he expresses Russia’s concern about US activity and likens it to Russia positioning drones off the coast of the US. He is quoted as saying:

We are concerned about the unacceptable activity of the US military in the immediate vicinity of our borders. We are well aware of the purpose for which such unmanned reconnaissance and strike vehicles are used.
What are they doing thousands of kilometres from the US? The answer is obvious: they are collecting intelligence information, which is subsequently used by the Kyiv regime to strike at our armed forces and territory.
Let us ask ourselves a rhetorical question: if, for example, a Russian strike drone appeared near New York or San Francisco, what would be the reaction of the US air force and navy? I am sure that the actions of the US military would be uncompromising in nature, not allowing a “breakthrough” its air or maritime space.
We presume that the United States will refrain from further speculation in the media space and will stop flying near Russian borders.

Change drone for TU-95 and NY/SF for Scotland and what happens then?

That's not really the same thing as the Bear has a crew in it making the stakes a lot higher.

However, if the US was doing an SMO in Mexico and Russia had UAS up over the Sea of Cortez feeding the Mexicans real time intelligence then the US would 100% shoot it down and would not piss around and with ramming it or dumping fuel on it.

Apparently when the ussr stationed missiles in a sovereign state 90 miles off florida the United States was very unhappy

It's not this sort of thing that's taking us to ww3, it's the competition between China and the United States. The US decision to ban sale of microchips to China. The way the world microchip market is centred on Taiwan. The way China claims Taiwan. And the timing of xi Jinping's latest term of office. There's your basic reason why in the fairly near future, maybe a couple of years from now, everything will kick off.

The whinge about the environment stuck out a bit for me.
US military officials said the incident happened at about 07:03 Central European Time (06:03 GMT) on Tuesday and the confrontation lasted around 30-40 minutes.
Several times before the collision, the fighter jets dumped fuel on the drone in a "reckless, environmentally unsound and unprofessional manner", it said in a statement.

Yes. I'm sure HIMARS rounds are made from 100% recycled materials.

Even when they are giving them away these things ain't cheap

General Atomics offers Ukraine to purchase 2 Reaper MQ-9 drones for $1. However, Kyiv has to spend about $10 million to prepare and ship the aircraft to Ukraine, and approximately $8 million each year for maintenance.
From February this year.

Didn't Russia regularly fly off the US coast before they ran low on money and parts for Bears?
Yes but not to the extent it happened/happens the other way around and afaik never actually overhead deliberately violating American airspace as the Americans routinely did over Russia untill one of them got shot down, perhaps the ultimate example of American Hypocrisy in the matter of sovereign airspace arguments with Russia
Not that the airspace boundaries in this incident are internationally valid anyway, they seem to be defined unilaterally by an invader
