Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

I'm not complaining about it, but I don't understand how a lot of what we see the Russian side doing is... well, dumb.

There's a video the Ukrainians put out today of a tank disabled by drone. The drone comes back 5 or six times before nailing the engine and forcing them to bail. This isn't one of those fancy drones with dozens of miles of range and whatnot, it's a quadcopter dropping an antitank grenade each time. I just think - WTF are these three guys in a tank doing off in the middle of fucking nowhere that they can't do anything about a drone popping back and forth half a dozen times? Like if there were four guys in a foxhole somewhere nearby they could take it down with gunfire easily. And why didn't they maybe move closer to support after the first five times? It's just so stupid, and they were lucky not to pay with their lives for it.

I suppose it's just Exhibit B for how Ukraine can stand up to a force that was expected to wipe them off the map in a week, but I just can't understand how a year later they're still being such idiots.
Russian troops are very much trained along the "ours not to reason why..." model, and it is likely that at least some of them will be scared of the consequences of doing anything that looks like running away. The sort of initiative that you're describing seems to be pretty much trained (or beaten) out of them, and this kind of "headless chicken" response to anything going wrong seems pretty characteristic of at the very least the mobilised soldiers...although the more experienced specialists haven't exactly demonstrated an adaptable approach to combat, either, though we have to remember that we're really only seeing the Ukrainian perspective on this, and it may be that battles in which Russian soldiers DID exercise initiative and adaptability don't, for various reasons, turn up as a matter of record on social media.

'NAFO shitposter' says in bio . Says everything I'm afraid.

Not just them though, it's covered in plenty of other places. Worth being skeptical of random Twitter accounts, but not dismissing the possibility surely?

Hard not to imagine that if the claim had been Ukrainian far right members arrested provoking something you and TopCat would be all over it?

Somebody had "NAFO shitposter" in their Twitter bio, move along, nothing to see here

On Saturday, Moldova’s national anti-corruption agency said that it has seized more than 220,000 euros ($234,000) during searches in a case of alleged illegal party financing of the Shor Party by an organized criminal group.

The agency said that car searches of “couriers” for the Shor Party discovered the money stuffed into envelopes and bags in various currencies, and that it was earmarked to “pay for the transport and remunerate people who come to the protests organized by the party.”

The Shor Party’s leader, Ilan Shor, is a Moldovan oligarch currently in exile in Israel. Shor who is named on a U.S. State Department sanctions list as working for Russian interests. The United Kingdom also added Shor to a sanctions list in December.

I was referring to the source of the tweet not the story. You'll have to try harder in your imagination wont you?

Like nobody's ever seen suspiciously clean booted and steely eyed "protestors" egging on the rock-throwers etc. Agents provocateurs are an ancient tactic and they work. I wouldn't be surprised if Russia had a whole department of the fsb dedicated to it.

The US isn't going to start shooting over a drone probably why they were using one in the first place. If it had been a manned jet and the pilot had been lost it would be a different matter.
But there isn't going to be a gaggle of robots outside the White House with signs saying "No One Gets Left Behind" and "Bring Our CPU's Home"
It doesn't say what happened to the Russian jet. I have a vision of some guy with a hammer trying to knock out the dents.

Most people admit to being wankers, those that deny wanking are liars.

In other news, most people don't like the idea of bending over and being shafted by Putin & Co, and then there's the likes of you.
Why don't you just focus on the subject of the thread? it's a bit odd that on a thread largely made up of war enthusiasts and supporters of the west, a couple of dissenters bothers you and other posters so much you just resort to continual insults. Sub playground stuff really.
