Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

This is interesting. There are some heavyweight old military men, organised and outspoken in their criticism of Putin & this whole Ukraine adventure.
I reckon they’ll be busy right now.

Reading this now. . . . and Jesus H. Christ on a crutch. Even if they go to the Kremlin and tell VP"the Politburo has decided that you are unwell, the ambulance outside will take you to a secret location for a well-earned rest", they will be replacing Pinochet with Franco.

Does sound like that yeah. The man profiled as key to the organisation (movement?) is ancient though but maybe younger officers drawn to it aren’t any better.

all the 'hopefully the generals and oligarchs will act soon!' stuff going on doesn't seem like the ideal fix to the situation, have to say

Notable apparently that their attack on him, calling for his resignation, saying the whole Ukraine thing is madness, has not been taken down off the internet but left up for weeks.

Best news of the day.
If / when his generals start talking and turning against him he is DONE.

Indigenous Anarchist Federation of North America any good?

That's good but it's more reassuring if the text is longer than that, as in long enough that there's no chance I'm going to read it. Ideally maybe it should be as a PDF or maybe as a slightly fuzzy jpg on the group's own website.

In the last days of Perestroika, I remember a Newsnight report where the hack went out to a Moscow housing estate where one very Bearded with a capital B activist was reading out a political manifesto demanding "All Power to the Soviets - But for Real This Time".

The Beeb hack took a line that was basically "all sorts of alternative lifestyles here on craggy island", but you know what, the Beard-with-a-B was right. Except he was doomed, as anyone else trying it now would be doomed.

It's old news tbf. Article is dated 9 February.

Regarding getting rid of Putin as a solution to all problems, of course it isn't. The immediate concern is to stop this war, to stop the killing happening right now. An internal coup replacing Putin with a different nasty to achieve that? Most Ukrainians would take that right now, I would have thought.

Apparently he's not in Moscow any more. He's done one to the Urals for fear of being assasinated.

who do you have in mind?

Was chatting with a Russian friend who doesn't believe a word the generals are saying and thinks they would have deposed Putin already if they thought he was nuts.

He has been in the Urals at his massive pad with his oligarchs for the past few days.

It's been a few pages now since anyone's posted a statement from an obscure anarcho communist group. If Putin is starting to talk about nuclear weapons then we really need some stepping up in the quantity of statements from such groups.
Happy to help, here are two new statements from comrades in Russia:

Also, the Final Straw audio interview I'd previously posted has now been fully transcribed:

Not useless. Legally, Turkey can stop warships going south but not north through the strait.
After Millerovo I would point out that its a rather pleasant 14 degrees in Tartus
This theme has come up on this thread a few times already but we can rely on the fucking Telegraph to demonstrate the phenomenon in a vulgar manner.

Um. My main confusion in that is me thinking India is the largest democracy in the world as well as a sovereign nation. One that was working on a lot of infrastructure projects in Afganistan before the withdrawl. One that worked damn hard ion Covid too

Its not exactly a surprising statement from them about this war either, given that the article you linked to is clear enough about how long they've been making noises opposing Putin:

Ivashov has stayed politically active as an extreme, anti-democratic nationalist leader. In 2003, he founded his All-Russian Officers’ Assembly with a limited number of like-minded extremists. Their ideology is a mixture of Soviet nostalgia, religious orthodoxy, and patriotic conservatism with support from some communist leaders. From the outset, they demanded the ouster of Putin as corrupt and incompetent.

I've convinced myself at least for the moment that this is what happens next, he has an unfortunate accident very soon, forces withdraw from Ukraine, and god knows who gets to be the new Putin.

what happens next is he has an unfortunate 'accident' and someone more militarily competent takes command. seems to me much more likely than some fairy godmother of a general takes over and lo! with a tap of the wand magics everything ok
