Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-24

Patiently waiting for editor to condemn this move, anti-personnel mines are indiscriminate, predominantly impact on civilians, and huge numbers of children are maimed from them. But perhaps it’s ok if it’s the west doing it?

Will there be a trial for Biden and his cohorts for this move? I thought the UK was opposed to the use of these mines so I’ll await Starmer’s response.
They wouldn't even have to be considering employing smart land mines if Russian hadn't illegally invaded their land, slaughtered tens of thousands of civilians, bombed hospitals, schools and homes and continued to commit horrific crimes against humanity.

But seeing as you asked, I condemn all uses of indiscriminate land mines, but I'd say that's a relatively minor issue considering the near-daily crimes against humanity that Russia is inflicting on the Ukraine people.

And seeing as you're one for demanding personal comments on such things, I'm sure I can look forward to near-daily condemnations from you about every illegal action Russia takes in this vile war that they started.

Sorry, but I can't take the opinion of anyone who writes lose as 'loose' seriously. FFS.
That's really not on. We've moved on here from turning our noses up at mis-spellings, and rightly so. There are quite a few people on Urban (I don't know if emanymton is one) who have disclosed having things like dyslexia, and we ought not to be shaming people for conditions they have no control over.

I've always been very particular about spelling and grammar, and in the past have also been prone to being more dismissive of people who "can't spell". But experience - not least a TIA which has had a small impact on my spelling - has taught me otherwise. I cannot recommend the TIA route, however.

Yeh there's plenty about emanymton that stops me taking him seriously, but it's the content of his posts rather than their form

emanymton has complained at least twice on this thread about discrimination against dyslexic people.

I in fact started a thread about it not that long ago ... oh fuck it was 9 years ago!!

To be clear, I have no issue with being politely corrected, or even good natured jokes. My issue is when people try and use it to discredit the substance of a post without addressing it directly.

Also has called anyone not lavishly supporting the right-wing Ukrainian government “far right”
I think you meant to put lavishly in Bold?

Anyway I don't fully accept that characterisation but yes I think the positions some are taking will lead them into the arms of the far right if they are not careful. TopCats posts are practically identical to the ramblings of Tulsi Gabbard for fucks sake.

And I think it's quite possible that some of the posters on this thread will be happy that Trump won, and if not they are heading in that direction and others with similar positions certainly would be happy with him winning.

So much effort attempting to insult and smear other posters.

Any comments on the war? There are several things going on.
Yes, provocatory escalation by the United states with the provision of anti personnel mines and the extended use of ballistic missiles. This will not end well.

US inspired regime changes generally do not, this is no exception.

Never saw that, how the hell am I meant to know.
The point is that trying to discredit a post based purely in spelling implies that those with dyslexia are dumb and not to be taken seriously. Even if the person you are replying to isn't dyslexia some of the people reading your reply will be. Many of us have been made to feel stupid throughout our lives because of it. It's insulting and discourages people with dyslexia from posting as they expect every small error will be used against them, and this is on top of it just taking more effort to write than it does for people without dyslexia.

I've mostly abandoned this thread, as they have completely taken over it and I just can't be arsed. It's a shame it makes it impossible to have any real discussion about the war.

Ah, it's only this twat and Topcat in full-on Putin felch mode. The others are just pretenders to take the piss out of.
