Tottenham Hotspur 2020-21

Good to see Vinicius really contributing. He's had a decent start to his Spurs career but needed the goals, doesn't look like he's the next Soldado/Janssen.

Dele Alli looked really bright too. Could be a surprise starter at the weekend; Ndombele was pretty much the only regular who played so with the quick turnaround might be the one to get a rest, and Dele loves playing Chelsea. He played like he's got a point to prove from Jose's treatment of him this season, maybe things will click into place for him.

2-0, no surprises who the scorers are. We're letting Arsenal have a lot of possession but keeping them at arms length, and there aren't many better counter-attacking sides than us.

I see three times where Harry Kane is fouled. He gets to where the ball is going to land before the jumping player and makes it so the ball can't be won without jumping over the top of him. On each occasion the guy going for the header can see Kane arriving and has a choice to make - pull out or jump over him, but he can't head the ball without committing a foul.

Kane has another signature move too. He did it for the 250th time yesterday.

I am not knocking Kane for his footballing ability. He is an outstanding striker and imo playing his best football this season.

Listened to a lot of the usual football podcasts over the weekend and every single pundit stated it was a dangerous move, could seriously hurt the opposition player and he should be seeing at least yellow if not a straight red.

Not posting it to have a dig at Kane or Spurs here. Just the only people I have heard defending his actions are Spurs fans.

In other news fair play to Spurs. Not thrilling football (JoseBall) but effective counter attacking. Clinical finishing/assisting from Son and Kane. Deservedly top of the table.

I think this is objectively true. The jumping player is choosing to jump. It is not their god given right to do so, it's a choice, one borne out being out of position somewhat

Curious that the only player in that situation (multiple times) is Kane :hmm:

There are (despite VAR) a lot of players still diving and not getting booked. Conor Coadys dive against Liverpool was a 'clear and obvious' yellow card for simulation. That is not to say players like Salah, Fernandes and others are not taking soft tumbles in the box.

Backing into a player (and it is deliberately) in or close to to the penalty area is dangerous play. It is in Rugby and it is in Football.

Kane is competitive and looking for an advantage. Sadly that is part of the game but in his instances it is very dangerous play. The referee (and VAR more) should be clamping down hard on this.

When do most jumps like this happen? Id say in the box from a corner. Is every player that backs up a little doing something illegal? No. Should the jumping player be careful not to foul. Yes.

Diving is disgraceful and a whole other issue. Not enough red cards for simulation imo.

Backing into a player who is in the air is dangerous and could cause serious injury.

I mentioned the simulation as a reference to the low quality of refereeing and appalling VAR. If a player does a 'clear and obvious' dive he should be booked 100%. However that is different to dangerous play which is what Kane is doing.

As I said above this is not an anti Kane/Spurs agenda. It is not solely my opinion but also the opinion of sports pundits, ex players and football writers.

Putting aside this dangerous play Spurs would still be top of the league on merit.

Glad all you spuds fans are enjoying your moment of glory. Lets face it as a club you have been pretty shite since the early 60s. How many posters here remember winning the league? :D

Were a bigger club than Arsenal when I was a nipper but fucked off a lot of their local fanbase by not fielding many black players in the late 80s. I lived in Tottenham in the 2010s & you saw more Arsenal shirts down the High Road than spuds. Most fans now seem to be home counties based.

Enjoy it whilst it lasts. Having that cunt as a manger must really make you feel good.

That is akin to saying a player is choosing to tackle but if the opposing player goes studs up into him then that is a choice?

False equivalence. Kane isn't doing anything other than positioning himself in a place where the ball can't be won cleanly.

If the ball is there to be won on the floor, go in for a sliding tackle.

If there's a player in between you and the ball, don't go in for a sliding tackle.

If the ball is up in the air, go and head it.

If there's a player in the way so you can't head it without jumping all over him, don't go up for the header.

Come on :D

Players jump for headers.
Kane clearly backs in under the player.

Stick up for your team/player by all means but there was no player in the way.

Come on Badgers, we went through this after the Brighton game. If Kane takes the space AFTER the player has left his feet, he has committed the foul. If he takes the space BEFORE the player has left his feet, he's the one being fouled.

Your clip showed three instances. So far three refs and three VAR refs have seen these and agreed with my interpretation, so it's not as cut and dried as "only Spurs fans think this".

Alright. Will let it go for now and see how these 'isolated' incidents go from now ;)

Will leave a few others opinions here for the record :)
