Tottenham Hotspur 2022-23

Spurs want Harry Maguire

Centre backs who could potentially be available this summer (not just for us, obv we have 0 chance for e.g. Gvardiol), for varying levels of price gouging:

Aymeric Laporte
Pau Torres
Fikayo Tomori
Levi Colwill
Marc Guehi
Max Kilman
Piero Hincapie
Josko Gvardiol
Jurrien Timber

Centre backs who we want, allegedly:

Harry Maguire

Villa want him too apparently. Has there ever been a "transfer race" before that no-one wants to win?

Kit launch video is up on YouTube.

Features Son, Richarlison, Skipp, and... Kane. Read into that what you will.

Could they buy Maguire for parts? Take his knees off and stick them on the now 42 year-old Ledley King.

If Ledley King had decent knees he'd still be playing at 42, and he'd still be the best centre half around. What an absolute Rolls Royce of a defender, made it look effortless.

I vote we stick the entire transfer budget into cloning tech, and grow a new Ledley. If anyone's got a petri dish and a Messi shirt with his old sweat on it, we'll take that too.

Kylian Mbappe news, tangentially Spurs related. It's hardly a secret that Real Madrid have always wanted him at some point, and it looks like this summer is it.

So where does that leave Kane? Real Madrid and Barcelona are the only 2 clubs in the world where the prestige of the name is everything, so sod the PL goals record - if they want him, he'd be off. But Barca can't afford his left shoe, and Real with close to 100m spent on Bellingham and probably more again on Mbappe aren't in it.

This all leaves a glaring vacancy at PSG (post Mbappe, post Messi) but they're really going to struggle to make a mark on the Champions League. As much as Kane wants to win trophies, there's no way on this earth that a legacy of "2 x French League winner" is a substitute for going past Shearer's goals record - It's the same reason Bayern Munich was only an outside bet, but more so.

It really is Man Utd or Spurs. I think he's staying.

I've also heard that Kane's brother is his agent? And he's not as pushy as other arsehole agents.

Rumour mill mentioned Brentfords keeper coming to Spurs

Raya is a good keeper, and excellent with the ball at his feet. Expensive compared to (e.g.) Dean Henderson (my choice), but fits the profile. Plus, Henderson would come with the added complication of dealing with Man Utd, who might ask for certain favours (or a certain player) in return.

nearly

You say nearly... Bayern's bid is barely half what it would take to make Levy even pick up the phone, and it's far from guaranteed that Kane himself would be in a hurry to Deutschland.

People won't remember 2 x Bundesliga winner Harry Kane, they will remember the Premier League's all-time record goalscorer - the question would have to be, in a world that contains Manchester City and Real Madrid, does Kane back himself to make Bayern the best team in Europe and does he back himself to come back at 33-34 and still knock off the remaining 49 goals.

To more concrete news - new goalie! Vicario from Empoli - very highly rated, including by Gigi Buffon who knows a thing or 2 about Italian goalkeeping. Can't confess to knowing a great deal about him, but as long as he can catch a football then I'll defer to the experts and have high hopes of a step up from latter day Hugo.

To less concrete but still hopeful news - James Maddison being reported as a nearly done deal, 40m quid plus unspecified add-ons. Much needed, fingers crossed.

More than most outfield players I expect Kane to perform at a very high level well into his thirties. He's never been very quick or nippy, but he's always been extremely clever, and that doesn't leave you.

Clocked as Spurs' quickest player this season just gone, joint with Son & (surprisingly) Perisic 3rd. I think it's the acceleration of e.g. Son and Sessegnon that Kane doesn't have.

Fair enough, I stand corrected.

I think it was Johann Cruyff who said, "Football is a game played with your brain". More than almost any other English player I can remember Kane personifies that.

The Kane saga rumbles on. Uli Hoeness says Bayern are increasingly confident of signing him, with indications from Kane's camp that he wants the move. But crucially, Levy is yet to name a price with Bayern's 2 alleged offers of around 60m and 70m dismissed out of hand.

Hoeness mate, it's Levy. Saying stuff like that to the press has probably added 20m to whatever price Levy had in his head.

Micky van der Ven signed on the dotted line. Left footed centre back and occasional left back by trade.

Tall, elegant defender, good reader of the game and good passer of the ball. Sounds a lot like one Mr Jan Vertonghen if you ask me, about time we had a decent replacement for him. Where he differs from SuperJan is that he's absolutely rapid - clocked as the fastest defender in the Bundesliga last season, a league that contains Alphonso Davies.

Destiny Udogie/ Micky van der Ven / Manor Solomon/ Alejo Veliz / James Maddison. All under the radar. It's Ricky & Ossie all over again. I see nothing but silverware in my future. coys.

It's done

in the link it says "Kane now has a decision to make with the forward understood to be leaning towards staying with Tottenham."
