Tottenham Hotspur 2020-21

Southampton were impressive. They tore into us from the off and didn’t really relent. Fair play.

Spurs were poor though and the defending comical at times. Huge problems in defence and midfield. Bentancur did more in 2 mins on the field than PEH managed in 60.
Less said about Emerson and Sanchez the better…

Can’t expect to challenge for top 4 with performances like that.

Got drenched coming out if the ground too

“It was a difficult day, because we conceded two goals after only maybe 15 minutes,” said Antonio. “The performance was good, maybe one of the best since I was here, but at the end, we’re talking about a bad result, 2-0 down.

Perfect opportunity for Conte to be demanding a bigger transfer pot
He'd have a point. The first 11 is probably only a RWB away from being a really good side, but the depth is atrocious.

Conte clearly doesn't trust Rodon, but that leaves Dier (much criticised but he's been excellent this season) as indispensable. Romero and Sanchez both much better as the marking RCB than as the spare man in the middle, and as a consequence the last couple of games have been chaotic and disorganised at the back.

Bentancur looks a bit of a player, but it's asking too much for him to come in and seamlessly (instantly) transform the midfield into something that retains solidity (sometimes against an extra man) and is quick in transition from back to front.

Tariq Lamptey or Djed Spence, Bale on a free, another CB, and a central attacking midfielder (not necessarily to start, but as an option to link play with a 2 up front instead of the usual 3) would transform this squad. Conte has trimmed the fat by ditching players he didn't trust and got his first 2 players in, but we're a bit thin.

What happened to Gil? I vaguely remember him playing once - looked him up and he's immediately gone on loan to Barcelona

I mainly watch MotD - Spurs the first match the last two times against 'lesser'teams, so a bit of a spoiler

Gil has gone to Valencia. He's a good dribbler but a bit lightweight - at only 20 I think the pace and physicality of the Premier League came a bit early for him.

KAAAAAAAAAAANE!

Anyone still think Dier is the problem? Didn't think so, the back 3 were all fantastic. Kane, brilliant. Kulusevski, what a player he looks. Bentacur, quality. Hojbjerg, warrior.

Get in, COME ON YOU SPURS.

I have to admit to shouting FFS Dier a couple of times tho, we are forced to play counterattacking football, which means when theres some kind of a break on (rare) you have to snap into action and twice Dier seemed to stop a move developing into an attack by holding the ball up or even passing back. But I'll let him off.

Undoubtedly one of the best matches this season (so far).
i find games like this painful to watch - basically being besieged by a dominant team is torture
throw in a unfair handball decision and it makes me wonder why i ever bother watching
good scoreline drama though and luckily justice was done

for pleasure in the beautiful game i much prefer an open attacking one end to the other game

He's our only player who understands the central role in a back 3, it suits a CB/DM. Romero looked excellent (handball aside) in the marking wider role, and Davies has been better all season as long as Dier is alongside him. The depth is poor (Rodon out of favour, Tanganga hit and miss, Sanchez only suitable on the right) but the first 3 are boss.

Buzzing, what a game!

For fucks sake Spurs. This club will be the death of me!! Only we can lose at home to Soton and Wolves and the go away to City and win in the most dramatic style - #spursy

Kane gets all the plaudits because he was immense. For all Citeh’s possession, when Harry came deep and turned they panicked. The 3 CB’s were also immense. Hugo redeemed himself, while the MF ran their bollocks off. Wing backs still a concern though…

Burnley up next. You’re not proper Spurs unless you expect an error strewn defeat…

Conte’s forte is counter attacking football . He’s one of the best coaches in the world at it .

Fuck knows whether he is staying or not? He has proved to be a much bigger drama Queen than I expected. Proper Diva.

Unsure what Levy can do between now and May in terms of squad?? He has to work with what he has. And tbh Conte has been out coached in our last 4 defeats.

Having said all that, I’d still rather he was our manager and hope he is next season (though that looks a long way off). Ultimately the long term blame for all this lays firmly at Levy/ENIC’s door with their scrimping and non-existent scouting.

That and the fact that the club is cursed! Cursed I tell ya….

spurs fans going on like losing to southampton and wolves was a massive slip. wolves were only just below you at the time and are now above you with a well recruited and well organised team. southampton are also well drilled with players and coach recruited to fit an ongoing process.
spurs are a total fucking shambles from top to bottom. apart from kane and son the team are a shower of shit. the man city result was the slip.
cheeky cockney cunts.

As amused as I am as an Arsenal fan, I also find the Conte thing fascinating - as the poster above says, what can Levy actually do at the moment? Which makes think me Conte isn't just applying public leverage for transfer funds, but really does want out. He joined you in November FFS, what is he up to? Or what is so different to what he expected or was promised? It's pretty nuts to be looking for the door 3-4 months in a week after beating the runaway champions to be.

(Or have Utd spoken to him?)
