Tottenham Hotspur 2020-21

just watched the highlights. ...mustve been a tortuous 90 minutes
grim stuff
though arsenal lost too so all is well with the world after all

It was an awful watch. I can’t recall us having a shot on target in the whole game. Turgid stuff but give Potter credit he outthought Conte today. Flooded the midfield, didn’t get sucked in, left no space behind, wasted time, waited for one chance - and took it. I knew Brighton would play like this and so must have AC. We have nothing to offer other than Plan A (which are devastating counter attacks). Zero creativity. I wouldn’t write this off as ‘an off day’. We don’t have much more to offer…

Worth noting the palpable nerves in and around the ground yesterday. Almost as if some of us knew we’d trip up 🤔.

From the highlights Brighton's quick press and general defending looked impossible to play against... Like their lives depended on it. Seemed like there was no space to play... Not sure what tactic can work against that.

I don't think I've seen a team as inconsistent as Spurs under Conte this season. When everything clicks they have been very good and you think yup definitely top four. Other times they are mediocre. Very Jekyll and Hyde . Be a shame if they allow Man Utd to finish above them who have been consistently the most average team out of the top 6/8 type clubs.

And then there were 2 from 3. West Ham now mathematically out of the 4th place race, as are Man Utd barring a miracle - they can get to 64 points (Arsenal 63, Spurs 61) but the NLD means that one of us is guaranteed to be on at least 64 with vastly superior goal differences.

Chelsea pl 34, pts 66, gd +39
Arsenal pl 34, pts 63, gd +13
Spurs pl 34, pts 61, gd +20

Chelsea could mathematically balls it up completely, but they won't. Arsenal could very well be 5 points ahead of us after the next round of fixtures, but if we win the NLD it's still on; Everton on the last day could still be in an almighty scrap, and Newcastle away is no gimme at all.

Performance full of character tonight. Proud of the team. A deflected shot done us and Hoj’s header at the end 😩.

Our much maligned wing backs both had good games. Emerson, who will no doubt be pilloried for his poor crossing (which we all knew about) did v well in defence. Sess was more of a threat than I thought he’d be.

Unfortunately a point doesn’t help us at all. As usual I am looking back at other games (Brighton, Soton, United, Burnley etc) and dropped points. Given the quality around us at the moment we should have 3rd sown up.

Aside from the Pool goal I’d imagine tonight’s game was exactly as Conte had planned.

Leeds fan tomorrow. Neither Spurs or Arsenal are consistently good enough to win all the games we're expected to (like Liverpool and City do), so there will be twists before the end if the season.

Simple enough - we need to beat the henry norris cheating shits on Thursday.

Personally I'm not even that fussed about finishing top 4, more about finishing above Arsenal (and keeping Conte). Conte seems to be doing a really good job, but also its great to see a manager with passion

HT, 2-0, Harry Kane is the boss of NLD.

Arsenal appear to have picked the thickest, most unprofessional bloke they could find at centre back - Holding played like someone who'd won a competition to get 30 mins playing with the big boys.

Holding clearly decided he was going to intimidate Son.... fair enough the first couple of times - which he clearly enjoyed too - but probably best not to elbow him in the face having already got a yellow for the previous :D hilariously stupid

Still on the way home….I’m sure the cacophonous noise came across well on telly.

Woolwich have had four games in a row against sides that have rolled over for them. Played a proper football team tonight and were found wanting. Son and Kane scared them witless. I’ll enjoy tonight (this morning) before worrying about games we can’t control. (C’mon Tripps…)

Played Thursday night then the 12pm Sunday. Small squad and a few injuries (Romero, Reguilon and Doherty the main ones), it would be a lot to ask to turn on the style again when playing a team scrapping for survival. 3 points was all that mattered, and we got them.

Come on Newcastle... Tripper with a 93rd minute free kick winner.
