The Ashes 2015

You're right - i'm more than happy. And more than happy with 'the unit' - bowlers esp. Understanding of what's required etc. Another 70 for half and hour tmw morning would have been nice.
This I agree with. I thought England's bowlers as a unit first innings were excellent. And I think we need to keep Wood fit for this series. He's the second most important bowler after Anderson now, I think.

What's annoying for me is that I don't think Aus's bowlers bowled that well second innings. They didn't earn that 289 all out. They were rather given it.

Yes. At the start of the match, I'd have taken that. But at lunch time today. At tea time today. No. That's not what they should have been set. In the end, England were a bit fortunate not to be bowled out for 250 or less. They played as if there were demons in the pitch so they had to slog away. But there weren't and they didn't.

Numbers 9, 10, and 11 are excused. Not their job. But numbers 4 to 8 did not do their jobs well. They didn't set about their jobs well. It could have been worse. But it should have been better. When Stokes got away with that lbw, Aus were on the point of wilting.
They weren't doing that because of the pitch but because of the team spirit - the holdover form NZ - let confident teams play aggressively and if they fail let them make their own changes.

Yes, you may be right. I hope so. But Bell in particular doesn't have to, and shouldn't, play that way. He's actually better than that. When he gets in, he should be thinking of setting himself for a big score.

Team spirit does seem good. Catching is a big indicator of team spirit and confidence, and England have been snaffling everything so far.

To be more positive, England have scored more than 700 runs in the match despite the fact that both their openers failed. I do think both Cook and Lyth will make a big score somewhere along the line this series. If they can win a match without either of them, that's a pretty big thing. There is potentially more to come.

My husband was taken to hospital yesterday so I have missed last 2 days play.

I hope he's on the mend but I doubt I'll have much time to catch up - fingers crossed though :)

I think people who aren't interested probably don't want to admit that they don't understand the scoring system - I say this because I can remember a time (about 40 years ago) when I didn't know what 148 for 3 meant :(

But I learnt :D

God, warner is such a dick.
This is absolutely correct, there aren't many players I want to utterly fail every game but he's one. Just a huge, huge dick.

Cook's the one that I think someone needs to have a word with, two sloppy dismissals from playing in a way which isn't really his natural game. And he seemed to be looking in good form too. That said still a good performance overall, bowling especially.

No. What did he do?
Stokes has a tic of dragging his bat across the crease after every ball, a tiny little thing he feels he has to do - lyon and warner were running up to him and literally standing up to him blocking him from moving until the bowler was ready so he couldn't do his routine. I mean 5 cms away from him. Like some arsehole blocking the door to the toilets in the walkabout.
