It's the even tinier, barely visible x that closes the pop ups, the others are decoys, took me a few goes but all fine now (or use the other one suggested above)

Get thyself chrome or firefox. Ublock is my current favourite ad blocker extension because unlike the others you don't have to give it permission to spy on you browsing habits.
