The 2024 UK General Election - news, speculation and updates

Discord is amazing. Probably because I only converse with one person on it. :D
That would help.

I hate the way it has replaced fourms for a lot of things the fact you can't start threads about a single topic is a nightmare. I don't get how discord and reddit become so big when fourms like this are a better way of handling much of what they are used for.

Yeah I don’t get involved in that side. It’s just functional when I’m working with someone on something as you can screen share and share files etc.

Calling an election on Monday would mean the earliest polling day was D-Day. 80th anniversary D-Day no less. Optics.

I think you're right to be sceptical.

It seems to me extremely unlikely that they'll call a General Election when next Thursday's local elections are now less than a week away.

What's to be gained by doing it now?
The temp on the rumours is rocketing up, no denial from D10 isn’t helping either. Very weird but your point is exactly my logic; I can’t think of a GE ever being announced a few days from another set of elections…

CCHQ just think that they can goad the the LP into repeatedly spending campaign money needlessly.

Guess I'm a sucker for clickbait because I'm way more likely to open a new thread titled 'Rumours fly that election announcement is imminent' or whatever than check for updates in an old thread dozens of pages long

The election is in October. HTH.

The YG polling from a couple of days ago does not suggest that the passage of the bill will be an unalloyed electoral boon, tbh...

Even before it fails, the policy idea has only 41% support and, more remarkably, only 69 % of 2019 vermin voters support the plan, with only 40% believing the flights will ever take off and just 27% thinking that would represent good value for money.

Once it becomes clear that either the flights will never take off or that a few do and the "small boats" keep coming, those polling %s will likely crash.

It might be. There's every chance he's going for summer. Remember, here's no strategist.
There's bugger all chance he is going for summer and even less than that for announcing anything this weekend. Why on earth would you announce an election a few days before one you are due to be hammered in? It might just mean they lost a few less council seats (Dont punish us now! Punish us properly in a months time), but who cares? And you dont announce an election just after you've taken a complete hammering. And then its parliamentary recess.

It's October.

About to go out to see a show at the Vagina Museum called 'In Her Majesty's Secret Cervix' that's a sort of live-roleplaying improv interactive show about, well, some people having a magical mission to retrieve something from said monarch's lady parts :D

Tomorrow, going to synagogue - which may be interesting, gsv has been the instigator, and me a co-signatory, of a group letter from 8 congregants supporting the anti-war stance of one of the rabbis that they have got a bit of slapping down for. Word probably won't have got around, but we'll see. As it's still Passover and we're low on yummy food choices, I will be baking my Passover carrot cake afterwards. Expect I'll go to the gym at some point.

Sunday - dunno, will probbably make enough matzah pie to see us towards the end of Passover. Keeping it a cheap and quiet one generally this weekend.

I think you have the wrong thread. :D

Successful (in their context) means multiple flights deporting hundreds of people, ain't happening. So far I am standing by my prediction of 0 flights deporting 0 people but now possibly with the added bonus of planes parked on the tarmac running up the already horrendous tab and angry Daily Heil articles about woke lawyers and judges.
I suspect when Sevenbins announced the bill had passed there was much merriment in Rwandan Govt circles. "OK Lads more money on the way which we have to do naff all for", they're one group that will genuinely miss Sevenbins when he vanishes into well deserved oblivion.

Im no political mastermind usualy stay in the photoshop my cat sort of threads and just came here to check the General Election rumours so perhaps I can be forgiven for reading that post 4 times thinking it was a deep political strategy analogy about why it has to be October I was missing or something
....before giving up trying to understand it moving on and then seeing it was meant for elsewhere

I feel abused :mad::D

If you can't engage in robust discussion without resorting to shit like this, maybe you should do us all a favour and fuck off now
If you consider bringing up antisemitism allegations for no reason in a thread about UK elections is robust discussion?, you're a fucking idiot
I think you should fuck off...CUNT
