The 2024 UK General Election - news, speculation and updates

I think a lot of positive stuff from election.
1. The tories are utterly fucked. Truss! Mogg! Truss! Shapps! And Liz fucking truss!
2. ReFuk did not make the kind of breakthrough many feared (and howit looked early on) - 15% ish votes share in an election where the whole country was lining up to kick the shit out the vermin. And a big chunk of ReFuk votes are NOT ex-tories and arent likey to "come back". The Greens got as the same number of seats.
3. Labours vote share was pushed down by people going to green and independants. So there will be real pressure on labour from that direction if they to be re-elected. (rather than gammon-signalling)
13 seats to the racists and Farage an MP.

Was the price too high to oust the Tories?

Hopefully not. I think it's protest voting and tactical voting rather than a foothold for the future.

The seat of Inverness, Skye, and West Ross-shire is to restart counting at 1030 tomorrow morning

That's interesting, the SNP had a majority of over 14k, I wonder which party is running them close, at least we can rule out Reform.

Other than that seat, just 2 left to declare.

Would have been great for Farage and Reform

Perhaps, perhaps not. The logics and patterns of FPTP wouldn't apply with PR, people would be a lot freer to vote with their actual beliefs. Either way it'd be a lot more democratic which I assume you have an issue with?

4 seats. 15% of the vote. Not a huge increase in their support. Far better than what was feared.

Sunak's misses dressed like one of those camoflaged battleships. Not something worth focusing on but then he's even less worth the attention.

13 seats?

They've only won 4 so far.
they wont get any more - unless Falange is going to pull off the mother of all electoral earthqukaes in the outer hebridies. There does not look to be a huge appetite for gammony bollocks amongst the UK electorate.

The libdems have won a record number of seats which shows that Ed Davey's tactic of saying nothing and just being fired out of a cannon is successful.

More of this kind of campaigning please
But they only won a similar number of votes as when Clegg was leader and they were getting hammered, as the Corbynites will tell you…

Can't get excited about any of this at all. NuLabour is about as left as LD, possibly less so, and the percentage of Reform voters is fucking depressing. I dread to think what will happen at the end of the next four years, we'll probably go full France.
Yeah, I'm dreading the next GE.

That's 1 seat recounting tomorrow, but there's still 2 other seats to declare, no idea which ones.

You think they will acknowledge that even if the news does break through into their centrist bubble? Unfortunately they’re more likely to look at the Tory survivors and think they need to be more like Patel, Braverman and Badenoch to win people over.
