Russia to stop gas supplies to Europe (1/4/22)

the suggestion that there should be an impartial UN investigation seems quite reasonable.
Impartial UN?, Hmm.

The weight of evidence does imply the Russians blew it up, but the presence of Russian navy ships is not proof, though it seems unlikely they could of course have been there monitoring/safeguarding due info that an attack was imminent from some other player. This alternative is of course never brought up in western MM

Because this alternative is, of course, a pile of crap.

From the BBC story...Another unnamed vessel was also present in that area the previous week in June.

Fits the narrative but this could well have been the Syzran. that was at sea having a butchers at BALTOPS22

Yes, just about as speculative as the implied intention the BBC made...you're being a selective nob again

It's only known to the cognoscenti I suppose

Make it personal, by all means. I'm sure it will improve your arguments (it could hardly worsen them), and your standing on the boards.

Well done, keep it up!

The unknown Indian company shipping millions of barrels of Russian oil
FT 04/05/2023 https://archive.is/vAI2y
Gatik became one of the world’s largest vessel owners in little over a year, transporting crude to India for Rosneft.
The vessels have also faded into the shadows. As recently as late March, at least 35 of Gatik’s ships held western insurance — a condition of which is adherence to the G7 price cap on Russian oil sales imposed from last December.

By early April, however, none of Gatik’s ships held insurance from any of the recognised large mutual providers.

The ageing vessels in Gatik’s growing fleet had previously transported crude oil all over the world, shipping records show. Once acquired by the Indian group, they started to focus heavily on the Russia-India run.

In doing so, Gatik, which means “speed” in Sanskrit, has helped facilitate one of the most significant shifts in oil flows in decades. Before the Ukraine war, Russia supplied less than 1 per cent(opens a new window) of India’s crude. It now accounts for around 30 per cent, according to official trade statistics.

New Delhi has not publicly rebuked Russia over the invasion and in return has benefited from millions of barrels of Russian oil, often sold at a heavier discount than to other buyers.

During the first quarter of 2023, the oil bought by India cost $48.03 per barrel before shipping — $10 less than the average paid by other countries, according to Kyiv School of Economics research based on Russian oil sale records.

Through such deals, India has absorbed most of the so-called Urals crude that Russia previously exported to the EU market. However, some Indian refineries have complained that the heavy Russian blend has been clogging old refinery equipment, according to three people familiar with the matter.

In response, Rosneft’s Sechin in March signed a deal with the Indian Oil Corporation, the country’s top refiner, to increase oil exports to India further and “diversify its blends”. Rosneft was the only Russian oil company with a presence in India before the war owing to its stake in the Nayara refinery in Gujarat, noted Kpler’s Katona. “They already had a foot in the country and they understand how business is done,” he said.

More evidence of potential Russian involvement is surfacing

U.S. had intelligence of detailed Ukrainian plan to attack Nord Stream pipeline
washingtonpost. June 6, 2023
Three months before saboteurs bombed the Nord Stream natural gas pipeline, the Biden administration learned from a close ally that the Ukrainian military had planned a covert attack on the undersea network, using a small team of divers who reported directly to the commander in chief of the Ukrainian armed forces.

Details about the plan, which have not been previously reported, were collected by a European intelligence service and shared with the CIA in June 2022. They provide some of the most specific evidence to date linking the government of Ukraine to the eventual attack in the Baltic Sea, which U.S. and Western officials have called a brazen and dangerous act of sabotage on Europe’s energy infrastructure.

Fresh Leads Point to Poland as Hub for Nord Stream Sabotage

Yacht linked to destruction of gas pipelines docked at Polish port for 12 hours
The revelations that a key U.S. ally is at the center of multiple investigations into one of the world’s greatest whodunits could further strain relations inside the North Atlantic Treaty Organization at a time when the Biden administration is trying to corral a united front in supporting Ukraine against Russia’s aggression.

Berlin’s support for Ukraine, which has so far had popular backing in Germany, could also be questioned if the German-led international investigation leads to the arrest warrants being issued for Ukrainian members of the sabotage crew.

I give very little fucks about who did the Nordstream pipeline, in the scheme of stuff that’s happened around the war it feels trivial, nobody died. It just seems like it’s become one of those pointless internet arguments where people are heavily invested in blaming one side or the other.

For sure, nobody died. Russia was intermittently throttling supply of gas well before the sabotage of the Nord stream pipeline.

It has fucked Germany economically with crippling price rises forcing people and companies to cut back. Nord Stream 1 previously supplied Germany with the majority of its gas from Russia. There was a massive push in Germany to open facilities to accept LNG and luckily there was a mild winter.

If the German government were unaware the sabotage was taking place - and it was done by Ukrainians with possible support from Nato countries - that will colour Germany's response to Russian aggression.

It just seems like it’s become one of those pointless internet arguments where people are heavily invested in blaming one side or the other.
There's some truth to that.

Not much mention of gas supplies and alternative lpg supplies for the forthcoming winter. Storage tanks were full last spring and last winter relatively mild. But what’s the plan for the coming cold months?

Did the uk reopen their long term storage facilities? Anyone build those lpg transfer stations?

rishi sunak is relying on global heating to provide for the winter

yeh the destruction of major infrastructure is of little concern. wonder, should someone cut the internet cables if you'd be so blase about it
