Rugby World Cup 2023

Mind you scrums now don't make a lot of sense in Union either. But as someone on urban said to me it would be a shame to get rid of the small barrel shaped players.

Wondering who the refs will be next week.

Of the 4 QF refs, you’d think neither England and SA would have the same ref two weeks in a row so not O’Keefe or Reynal. England obviously can’t have Barnes, SA can’t have Peyper who is injured anyway. O’Keefe can’t referee New Zealand either.

So maybe it’s the Aussie Nic Berry for the England game, he ran the line for England V Fiji, and Reynal takes New Zealand v Argentina.

Almost embarrassing as an England fan to be in the semis when Ireland and France aren’t. The history books may imply England are a better team due to reaching the semi final, but they’re really not. And yes the draw has helped.

Although England, and also Argentina, are improving with each match, admittedly from a low base. Not convinced it will be enough for either to get to the final, but stranger things have happened.

I thought he said there was no foul play, not no head contact.

IIRC the guidance goes
  • was there head contact?
  • if so, was there foul play?
  • if so, what was the degree of danger?
  • were there any mitigation?

If the answer to the foul play question is "no", then that's that.

Still a penalty though, right? Bendeus will know better than me
No, just saw this and they indeed said no head contact.

Southern hemisphere refs for both games next weekend

Angus Gardner takes New Zealand v Argentina, he also reffed the Pumas historic victory against New Zealand in 2020.

Meanwhile Ben O’Keefe has England v South Africa having reffed the Boks on Sunday too :hmm:

Wayne Barnes looks like he’s being held back for the final, providing England don’t win - 20% chance I’d say at most - and world rugby won’t want to lose another top referee.

I’m hoping England win. I’ve a bet on them doing so. When I placed the bet it was a bit of a joke but I got good odds and, if they do, I’ve got 10/1.

I think it would be fucking hilarious if England won the World Cup with the shittest manager in the tournament and a bunch of dodgy journeymen. But it could well happen. Although the smart money's on NZ. Can't see them losing either the semi or the final. The Ireland game was the real final.

There's this relatively unknown but up-and-coming team from South Africa you may not have heard of. They might be in with a chance.

New Zealand thrashed all and sundry in the Rugby Championship pretty recently. They had a couple of shit games since but look well back on top now.

They were also bummed rotten by those very same Bokke just a few weeks ago. I don't think they'll live with their power but I guess we'll see. Calling NZ Ireland the final after the Jarpies Vs France is fucking laughable, tbh

I’d give Argentina and England each a 15-20% chance of winning.

Both teams have recent wins against their opponents, admittedly the stakes were not as high: They’re not as good as them but they can win on their day.

Just checked bet365. NZ are just favs to win the cup, SA second favs and plucky lil England at 12/1.

Argentina 33/1. I might actually put a fiver on England at that price. Weirder things have happened.

You must have some special Kiwi version of bet365. Bokke are pretty much the favourites across the piece

Oops, yes I've got NZ at 6/5 and the saffas at 10/11. Tbh, I dont reallyunderstand fractional odds, but yes, you're right. It's tight though. If I had a spare grand I'd load it on the ABs. You know very well they're the better side.

I really don't, but as I said, we'll see
