Snooker 2023 - 24

I liked Maguire's comment post-match: "I've had difficult fifteen years."

The morning session was strange, with Day knocking in some superb long shots, and then fluffing multiple equivalents to the black off the spot.

Agree on both counts. Really odd morning from Day and O'Sullivan I thought.

They've been saying the century count is down on previous years, and so believe that the pockets are tighter.

The penultimate Allen-Higgins frame just now was absolutely brilliant. Wanted Allen to win it, but safety masterclass from both sides. And the long red off the cushion from behind the green was astonishing.

Just caught up with that final frame decider this morning, gutted for Mark Allen but it was such a clearance from Higgins.

Hopefully Kyren will do him in the next round.

Kyren has looked very assured so far, and seems the most likely to challenge Ronnie and Judd.

I wonder in Allen's best chance at the WC might've passed now. Higgins looked shite in the first session, and so he should've broken the back of the match there.

Not seen much snooker as I've been away, but I've been enjoying watching Gilbert this tournament.
I keep to mention Gilbert. I've not seen any of his games, but the results look very impressive.

What price a Gilbert-Jones final?

We watched Lisowski v Bingham the other night, basically won it on safety and snookers. Most of the Allen v Higgins match was a bit boring  but watched the final clearance the next morning, that first double on the red  gonna be a moment he keeps in his pocket for life.

Watched Judd v Jak while I was doing admin yesterday, I like watching Trump but he's not on form at the moment.

Final session between the Ronnie and Bingham has started with a really good first couple of frames
It's great innit! Had no idea where that last frame was going. Nearly a steal.

Yeah man, i've been way off the matk this year in my predictions after watching a fair chunk of the entire season. Was sure Judd and Mark Allen would get to the semis at least...

Gutted Maguires out but Dave Gilbert is great when hes on form and loveable to boot:D

I don't normally bother with the interviews afterwards but the one with Higgins was really sweet he'd clearly been in tears in the dressing room and was only just holding it together :)

Trump has done a Liverpool and imploded.

Really hope Bingham beats O'Sullivan but I have a bad feeling O'Sullivan will win it somehow.

ETA: he did not. That was a tense frame. Almost thought Bingham had lost it when he missed the pink.

I have been completely out of the programme since Monday with actual work to do and being out in the evening. Pleasantly surprised by who's in the semis.

I don't think anyone was expecting a semi-final of Jones, Bingham, Gilbert and Wilson. Gilbert's my fave out of those 4 but would be OK with any of them winning really.

He definitely wasn't perfect, but Wilson broke Gilbert's will last night with that five frame run. It looked like a matter of time this afternoon, and I suspect he'll start as favourite tomorrow whoever he's playing.

I like him as a player, as other than with the rest I wouldn't say he specialises in any particular style. He seemed pretty chilled in the post-match interview too. Tomorrow and Monday have got to be better than his last final appearance, when he got hammered by Ronnie in an empty Crucible during Covid.

I would have been annoyed if I had paid the £90 odd quid it costs for that session and only saw 4 frames.
There's something about Wilson that I don't like. I have no idea what it is. I was trying to work it out this afternoon but couldn't.

Maybe I will have worked it out by the end of the final.

Glum and angry face, stupid dyed hair. And a Chelsea fan.
