Snooker 2024-25

It is infuriating to lose a match to a fluke. I've been there. But fuck, he'll be on the other side as well. Wasn't even the most outrageous fluke really. Red could easily have run safe instead and Selt still needed to clear up to win.

Yeah, I get losing to a fluke is annoying but FFS, it's a thing that happens in snooker, it's not like Žižins telekinetically controlled the red with his mind. I remember Trump pulling one off in one round in the UK Championship, can't remember who he was against. No idea what he was doing in the corridor, sounds like he was kicking something and when the ref shouted 'Matthew! Please!' he told the ref to shut up. Baby.

I'm guessing he had one of those days when his opponent had a lot more luck than him. Run of the ball is a big part of snooker. It is random but randomness is clumpy. You will have days when you play better than your opponent and still lose. But of course the reverse is also true and as a pro you have to deal with it.

He's going to be massively embarrassed when he finally calms down.

R.I.P. Silvino Francisco. Died a couple of weeks before Christmas, apparently. Remember when he was a top 16 player for a few years in the 80s and even won a tournament. Sad that his career went off the rails and he ended up in jail for drug smuggling. Think he'll probably be remembered most for getting fined for accusing Kirk Stevens of being high in a match and then got the money back when Kirk admitted to being a cocaine addict. 😂

Well he was playing in the Championship league but does seem horribly out of form/losing the plot slightly again :(

I'm glad they've pulled Robbo in, as my Sunday afternoon would've been quite empty otherwise.

It wouldn't really, as I'd just watch whatever Cup game is on the telly then.

Ah fuck i was looking forward to that match :( although not been watching any snooker properly since the UK champs.

Wonder if this could be the tournament where Robertson really starts to find his feet again, given the opportunity 🤔

He might do a Denmark and win the whole thing

I enjoy watching O'Sullivan but I realized the other day that I was mainly wanting to see him keep winning was to get to the 1000 centuries. Don't mind so much if he retires now he's done that :)

I can't remember the last time I saw one shot turn a game so much, as Higgins' missed red to the right middle in the seventh frame. OK, he didn't capitulate as such, but Robertson suddenly turned into a world class player.

Shame :( I do like Higgins

and thank you for the Public Service Announcement, I'd forgotten it's on BBC4 :)

Form is temporary, class is permanent. I think as much as any player in history - Robertson embodies this. He can have poor form sometimes but when he's good, he's very good.

True, but how the hell did he miss that black off the spot? I think everyone likes him, but he's always had that in him, more than most.

Neither him nor Williams were really on top form. Ding especially was well out with his usually peerless cue ball control.

I thought 'ooh I'm missing that' and then remembered who he was playing and had already decided I didn't want to watch.
