Kemi Badenoch discussion

Spymaster, you fuckwit, I'd be saying the same if it was Abbott. I'm Jewish, does that mean I get to accuse you of antisemitism because you're disagreeing with me? Because that's what Badenoch is doing. Tennant wasn't having a go at her because she was black, it was because he has a trans kid and she hates trans people and is actively trying to make their lives worse. Which doesn't matter to you, but it does to a lot of people. If it was Dorries or McVey in her position, he'd say the same thing. He never once mentioned her being black and her race was irrelevant to the subject, but no, white man is criticising black woman, therefore he is racist.

I should have guessed you'd be a Badenoch fanboy. Ever considered joining Mumsnet?

Except it isn't, is it.

Both you and Lotte have completely misrepresented the Badenoch/Tennant exchange as an accusation of racism/politicising skin colour. Again, replace Badenoch with Abbott and take a look at yourselves.

If Badenoch was a socialist you'd be calling Tennant a bigot for publicly telling the black woman Equality Minister to shut up about her views on equality.

You're the fucking hypocrites.
As a trans woman who is white, I am perfectly entitled to tell any transphobe to shut the fuck up. Goes for you too.

If Badenoch was a socialist she'd be the only one in the house of commons.

Yes, I do think her response, in this case, wilfully stupid. The questioner clearly contextualised the issue in an attempt to define being black in the institutionalised racism of the UK. In an attempt to discredit this aspect of what she defines as CRT, she immediately went for the straw man argument of being black in Africa.
fwiw I don't think that particular argument is a straw man necessarily. It is an aspect of discussions around race and racism that they do tend to talk about certain terms in culturally specific ways that aren't universalisable. See also terms like 'POC'. That's not necessarily wrong, but it should be acknoweldged, no?

Bollocks. Liar.

You don't even understand what Badenoch/Tennant was about.
If it was about transphobia, then you're wrong, I think. Badenoch is weaponising race and in a very disingenuous way if Tennant's point in wishing she'd shut up was referring to her transphobia.

Not the first Tory to do that. iirc Sajid Javid did similar, asking 'Is it because I'm black?' when someone was rude to him when it was very clear that they were being rude to him because he's a cunt.

She did not accuse him of racism. The exchange is quoted above somewhere.

She said some stupid shit in response to Tennant saying "until Kemi Badenoch (clumsily but spitefully referring to her role as Minister for Equality) doesn't exist any more ... I wish she'd shut up ..."

It was an exchange regarding equality and her response was to have a pop back saying he'd attacked "the only black woman in Parliament", which she was.

Weaponising her blackness in your books?

Ffs.
when has Badenoch ever been the "only black woman in Parliament?"
Even if a person only uses the term black to describe those who are her skin colour (rather than non white) I don't think she's ever been the only black female MP.

I think you've missed part of the point here.

It's not simply about Badenoch's exchange with Tennant, it's the hypocrisy of her accusing the V&A of politicising her blackness and then seeking to politicising her blackness in her response to Tennant.

I can't remember the exact quotes, but they're both posted earlier in the thread.

I don't remember Abbott making a similar statement to Badenoch's one about the V&A, but if she had, she'd be a hypocrite too, and plenty here would call her out on it.

No, she hasn't. Only black female tory, perhaps? Can't think of any others. Or only black female in the government? Dunno.

Badenoch's not good on the details ... or the big picture.

Yep. I agree that she does appear to be trying to have it both ways. There is clear hypocrisy there, and like Javid, I'm pretty sure she knows it.

It indicates an affiliation or association. I do not know kemi badenoch and have no desire to make her acquaintance so would call her badenoch or kemi badenoch. Would you call Stephen Yaxley-Lennon Steve or Tommy? Would you call nick griffin nick?
There are some tics and quirks and ways with words that are just...... mine  I don't know how to respond. It's just how I type.

I don't think it is a you thing tbh - it's definitely become more common to refer to all sorts of public figures/celebrities by first names.

I do find it a bit weird though tbh. It's a bit artificially familiar in a way which is jarring.

I don't want Badenoch as leader. Not because of her colour, not because she is a woman, but because she is uber batshit crazy. Quite an achievement in a party that left the realms of sanity quite a wile ago.
I don't believe that she believes even a word of the batshitness she spouts.

it's not how you type it's how you think

This is such a weird interaction :D What are you looking for, a shibboleth to uncover my true character? I'm an overweight underachiever who hates extremists and would like increased investment in the arts and cheaper beer, there's nothing much else to reveal! I'm not as interesting as you're trying to make out, I can tell you that much.

What are you on????

She condemned 'the optics of telling the only black woman in government that she shouldn't exist and should shut up'.

He did do that. It doesn't matter that it was about LGBT stuff.

As I said, I hold no candle for KB and she does spout some shit but it's nothing like accusing Tennant of racism (Lotte) or weaponising her blackness (the other prick).

Can you really not see why telling a PoC that they shouldn't exist might go down badly, regardless of context?

the interaction isn't weird in any way, what is weird is your apparent submission that what you type has nothing to do with what you think.
