XL Bully dog - discussion

Dogs with a high prey drive might not be ideal.as a family pet. As a person that grew up with GSDs, ouch and I adore them.

But there we have it - prey drive plus massive ability to.kill - why would people without the ability to control.their dogs, have these dogs. It's the same as the gun laws.

I've had dogs with a massive prey drive as pets, but they weren't so huge you couldn't physically restrain them, and I think that's the key. The dogs were:
Twatterdale terrier
Lurcher
Collie (working)

I really hope it isn't real, but it looks like it is. What a horrible thing to do to a cat. Those poor creatures will lead miserable lives.

As for Reddit, no matter how many horrifying cases are reported, you'll always get pit bull owners posting their dogs, because their dogs would NEVER, and repeating the nanny dog crap. You go on an article about a dog killing someone, I can guarantee at least one person will post a photo of their dog. The nanny dog thing is so, so fucking stupid and I cannot understand why anyone genuinely believes pit bulls were bred to be nanny dogs. Same with XL bullies.
1. If they were bred to be nanny dogs, why are they called pit bulls? You know, because they were used in pit fighting? How does the name 'pit bull' imply that it was bred to look after kids?
2. Why would you leave a fucking dog to guard a baby? Even little dogs like terriers and chis can and do kill babies. Leaving a baby alone with any dog is dangerous.
3. If they were bred to be nanny dogs, why are so many of them triggered by babies crying, why have there been so many cases of babies and children killed by pits (and pit owners claiming the child/baby must have provoked the dog), and why are so many of them advertised as not being safe to go to homes with young children, or any children at all?
4. How can they have been used in medieval times to look after peasants' children while they worked in the fields if the breed didn't exist in medieval times?
5. Why would slave owners have allowed slaves to own dogs, and why would a master allow a slave to own a dog that could be used to attack him? I say this because I've seen at least one person claim that slave mothers used pits to look after their babies while they worked in the fields. Instead of tying their babies to their backs.
6. How can a dog change a baby's nappy? I don't think even a border collie could do that and they're extremely smart dogs. (Another claim: pit bulls were used in WW2 to help change babies' nappies and give them milk.)
7. If they're all so sweet and soft and gentle, why do people buy them to intimidate or attack others, and dock/crop their ears and give them names like Beast or Killer? That Scouse guy who sicced his XL bully on a woman and told it to 'get her' certainly didn't buy the dog because he wanted a big softie, and neither did that cunt in Jaywick whose dogs killed his mother-in-law.

Yes, there are pictures of little kids with pits, it doesn't mean the dog was bred to be a nursemaid, and neither were Staffordshire bull terriers. There are no dog breeds that were specifically bred to look after kids, but pit bull owners keep insisting pits were bred to be nanny dogs, and I've seen it with Staffies as well and I really, really do not get why people believe that, or if they genuinely believe things like the claim about slaves. There is nothing about the pit bull that suggests it was bred to look after children.

wtf is this? XL bully cats now?

I am going to repeat what I said earlier on the cat thread:

That's no more an XL Bully cat than my Jakey is - they're tiny for a start, and usually good natured.

It's a sphynx with achondroplasia (aka dwarfism) - the same sort of achondroplasia that Dachshunds and Basset Hounds have.
They're not accepted for registering with the GCCF which doesn't recognise cat breeds deliberately bred for achondroplasia, but the cat is just a normal cat personality type cat.

It's just clickbait.

Although any animal being bred in a way that may cause offspring to have health problems is abhorrent, I am more concerned about Taylor Swift and her popularisation of Scottish Folds - everyone wants one because she has them.
The gene that causes the folded ears doesn't just cause health problems in offspring, it's a fatal gene so if one is bred to another, some of the kittens' skulls won't form properly in utero and they'll be born dead or die shortly after being born.
Those that only carry one copy of the gene have joint problems (because it's basically a soft tissue disorder) and other health problems.
They aren't an accepted breed in the GCCF either, because of that.

However, newspapers and media sources haven't as far as I am aware locked onto this.

I suspect this is because Taylor Swift has them, and they look adorable.
Whereas a Sphynx x Munchkin maybe not so much, without fur a cat's face looks weirdly wrinkled (and to many people looks angry/aggressive and not cute), but all cats' faces are like that under the fur.

But the Scottish Fold is a far worse thing to breed than these.

In summary, deliberately breeding this:

Scottish Fold.JPG

Is far far worse than breeding the cat pictured in that newspaper article, and causes far more in-utero kitten deaths, neonatal deaths, and ongoing health problems than the alleged "XL Bully Cat" pictured in that news article, which a lot of people will consider ugly.
But ahh look this is cute, and celebrities have them and promote them, aaaahhh look at the little cute thing.
It doesn't raise as much ire as what is in the article, when it is more concerning - cos of cute looks. Less of an impact from a photo in a news article.

I wouldn't get one of them either. Or a munchkin, poor little things. Give me a moggy any day.

I got my cat because I had mice and I'm phobic. And I always wanted a cat but my dad wouldn't let us have one. My current cat is a good mouser.

A 10-year-old girl has been killed by the family's pet XL Bully in Yorkshire.

Why on earth do people get dogs like this for a pet when they have children? There are so many other breeds of dogs that they could get, so why get a 'dangerous dog' breed? It's like having a loaded gun in an unlocked cabinet in the same house as your children.

Oh yeah, they're ginormous bundles of fluff. Same with Norwegian forest cats, they're like the Erling Haaland of the cat world.

As for that poor little girl, no words. Her stupid cunt parents lost their daughter because of a fucking dog. And surprise surprise, the dog was perfectly friendly and safe until it wasn't. Like, is it really worth it to put your kids in danger because you want to feel badass and powerful?

I really don't get this fascination for XL'ing things like food and animals.
But if you must have a ginormous cat - get a maine coon.
My S-I-L has a couple of them and I'm not kidding about the size !

hmm they are lovely but don't you have to keep them inside due to what they do to the local wildlife :hmm:

The minute I saw that story, which didn't at the time say the breed, I knew immediately it would be an XLB
