Immigration "small benefit" to UK

Food is not cheap?

Low wages have alway's existed?

Cowboy cleaning firms? Regulate them.

As for 'attacks on the Unions'? The below, from a couple of days ago, suggests there are many who could be recruited to unions just now, instead of being manipulated by their employers.

A call for controls on immigration affects workers. Joining the chorus of immigration control only assists the absurd position outlined above.

Speaking of absurd positions, :D how would durruti's stand on 'local jobs for local people' fit in here?

what sort of reply is this?? LOL

so explain food prices MC .. they pay people less than minimum wage to process food .. so ho welse could they do this without migrant labour?

low wages have NOT always existed how they do now .. ( and you know this ) .. i am sure i do not need to point you to the millions of 'proper' jobs that have been lost and replaced with casual jobs

regulate cleanig firms? yes indeed .. but if you did this they would not bother to employ migrants would they??

and bringing in the issue fo specialist workers in ethnic resturant is daft .. it is so totally irrelevent to the arguement about neoliberalism using migrant labour

You don't support the thousands of restaurant workers who staged a protest in Trafalgar Square on Sunday I take it?

Most migrants are paid the minimum wage to process food.

Does regulation magic away labour shortages do you think?

Low wages not existed before now? My first wage was £3 a week in the radical sixties, so, as usual you're talking out of your arse. :D

Food is likely to be more expensive it appears:

Farmers' leaders are warning that a decline in numbers of migrant workers could cause a shortage of fruit and vegetables this year. They have met senior Home Office officials to warn them that produce could be left to rot this summer unless more foreign labour is allowed to harvest crops. There is particular concern for fields of soft fruit that are due to ripen in the coming weeks.

Apparently, the decline in the exchange-rate value of the pound is making Britain a less attractive destination for EU migrants.

They're saying, 'We can earn £7 an hour in our own country, we don't have to travel, why would we go to Britain?

Indeed.

1 I do i eat in their restaurants...Can i give myself a pat on the back now?

2 Yeah....You totally sure about that?

3 No. But it helps. What are you arguing for now doing away with all regulations?

4 Thank god for New Labour and the minimum wage then....Mind you i doubt if you were in favour of that, you dont seem to want to see any limits on what bosses can pay themselves do you?

1) 'their restaurants'? :hmm:

2) Any evidence to contradict my statement?

3) No, but my point still stands.

4) I am in favour of the minimum wage, although at present it is too low. I call for expropriation of expropriators. Clear enough?

The problems caused by mass economic migration have been ignored by Govt for years, those who have questioned it have been called racists and xenophobes. Those on the left who should be defending the workers who have been replaced by cheaper economic migrants have lined up with the Govt and big business that benefits from cheap labour in an unholy alliance that benefits none but the bnp.

The anger caused by the strain on resources by economic migrants has meant that all immigration is now seen by many as a bad thing. Those fleeing oppression have been lumped together in the publics minds with those migrants who fill the jobs that their own children may have done and this has caused sympathy for those in need to virtually disappear.

The importation of cheap labour has adversely affected both the indiginous Brit of all races and creeds and those in dire need of shelter.

The promotion of economic migration is just a short term wallet stuffing enterprise by the ruling classes.

Politically speaking I probably lean a bit to the right, but I agree with what you're saying. Here in America, companies are outsourcing jobs as quickly as they can. Meanwhile, the government is importing cheap labor (with both H-1B visas and our de facto open borders) to undercut the wages of Americans working at jobs that can't be sent overseas. American workers are being screwed, but most people don't seem to know or care.

excellent .. just needs to be on the front page now ;)

'Immigration is likely to become an even more contentious subject as unemployment grows and millions struggle against the rising tide of debt. The government has cynically exploited migrant workers to provide cheap labour for the bosses, without extra investment in run-down public services and housing to help cope with the changes in population.

While the BNP try to pit the existing white working-class against migrants, bosses will be able to continue to push down wages and conditions for all workers. Socialists campaign for migrants to be organised in trade unions to fight for and defend their rights alongside other workers.'

just one question - any idea why it say's the governement has cynically etc etc' instead of 'the bosses and the govt etc etc'?
