Glastonbury 2014

I've never been to Glastonbury. If I never go will I be on my death bed thinking 'I wish I'd gone to Glastonbury?' Every year it's on I think 'I'll go next year' but then by the time the tickets go on sale I see that mad rush for them, I never have the money anyway and then think 'meh.' Then it comes round to the time when the festival's actually on, like it is now, and the whole cycle starts again.

I wouldn't exactly say I'm a festival lover and I can generally take them or leave them. Apart from plenty of one day affairs I've only ever been to Reading and Leeds when I was in my late teens and Nozstock in 2011 and 2012 which, tbf, I did have a pretty good time at one Reading, another was just a horrible sketchy drug fest. Both Nozstocks I enjoyed though and I think that was mainly because it's really rather small, had a distinct lack of knob heads and the toilets didn't make me wanna gag. Glastonbury does sound fun and I've no doubt it is but the down sides of it I think would overshadow the fun. I probably would get pissed off with the sheer amount of people, trudging through shit just to get somewhere and getting rained on. The ticket price does put me off but when you spread that price over what? 5 days? It's actually not bad but then I'm the type of person that on the 3rd day would think 'I'm covered in shit, I stink and there's too many people here. I could be sitting on a beach for the price I paid.'

Ah well maybe I'll go next time

I have loved it (mainly when I've been)
I worked there = better camping
I was able to get there earlier/leave later to avoid some crowds and chill out more
'97 I could only get minimum time off work and it was a very muddy year and my girl was four and I can't say I enjoyed it that much
I really wouldn't go now if I had to pay / had to camp with a millimeter between me and the next person- I just don't want to be in that level of crowd and discomfort ....if I got a working pass and some good camping spot and a week to be there I'd probably enjoy it
Doctor Carrot enjoy a little bit of armchair longing and regret for free - I do :) it's much more enjoyable than having to work so hard to enjoy myself

although....my daughter is there with crowd of friends.....they got in for free with a band they're friends with....and I bet she's having a great time

They are a very skillful band...i have some mates trying to get me to their Dublin show on Friday. i dont have a ticket but it looks good....not my bag, would rather stay at home to watch the football but they are excellent

One of my colleagues is catching a ferry to watch them with the Pixies on Sunday. I am a tad jealous!

I haven't been to all that many but I went to some either side of that one, as well as that one itself, so I'll spout some shit.

I think there was some kind of extra energy and edge on site that year due to the stupendous number of gatecrashers. I'm not sure who else I saw beyond Bowie, since I get the years I went all mixed up when not thinking of my favourite headline acts of the year.

I gate crashed that one. Was my first. Was fucking amazing. Me and a mate went to Gibraltar to buy loads of cheap ciggies and flogged them there at a decent markup all weekend. Totally forgot to bring a tent. Ran into a friend of a friend though who was working as a masseuse in the healing field, so we slept in a tipi all weekend.

I remember seeing the pet shop boys and Bowie and that's all. Brilliant weekend though.

I couldn't sleep last night, woke up at 5am or something. Managed to catch the arcade fire. Fucking brilliant. What a band.

That was probably one of the last ones I went to, I'd imagine. Possibly the one when aqua did a sterling job of helping me find my tent.

'It's in a field. It's a red one.'
that was 2003 and I still don't think I've laughed so much :D we did drag you to the stone circle too, you were refused a lie down on promise of drugs........

I loved that one. Lots of time being really daft. First day set the time by sharing some speed (?) From moose 's bloke and me and Wiskey flew around the site :D but I've loved then all even 2005&7 in their own way!

That was the year (2003) someone climbed to the top of the tent I think?

As I said on Facebook I'd love to go again. I'd love to take pickle (have no interest in doing the amount of drugs I used to) but for me that would only work if there was space, dry weather, no hideous trek from the car to camp site, so hideous queue to get in etc. There ate other festivals much higher on the list than glasto is for us

But fuck me I had so much fun there :D

Stig got halva in her worker's meal and didn't want it, so we made a tasty concoction with some of Salford's finest. :D
That explains a lot :D I remember the walk from one side of site to the other with Wiskey taking 2 mins :D

I think it was 2004, though, because Voley and his brother went off to see Orbital, and I'm fairly certain we spoke to Tanky on someone's phone, and she'd just got married. They've just had their 10th anniversary.

The speed might have been but voley was def 2003, cos I was in rounds of half pills with 3 people and only realised my mistake when I was absolutely arseholed and slumped outside the cider bus which is when I found voley.

It's funny what sticks in your mind, though. If you asked me what Radiohead played I'd probably give you a reasonably accurate response. Tanky's wedding though? Eh? :D

Although I do now have a dim recollection of being at the Stone Circle, with wiskey. But I think that's only because when I got home I found a photo of myself on my camera, totally asleep in front of one of the stones, and wondered how on Earth I'd managed a selfie while in a coma.

How the fuck do any of you remember any of this? :D
I have a really annoying ability of not forgetting very much. Which is both ace and fucking terrible at the same time :D

I found a whole load of my glasto photos over the winter. Must scan them in :D

I think the conclusion we can draw is that we got ourselves in terrible states every year.

Glastonbury 05/07. That may have been where you had seen me before. Do you remember vociferously stating you'd met me before Endorset? :D. I hadn't met you before but maybe you'd seen me with other urbs at cider bus or speigletent?

I first met you in the speigletent :D

Fat Whites performance on iPlayer is the best thing I've seen so far and that's saying something after Lykke Li.

Also watching on iPlayer means you avoid the CBBC presenters.
