Glastonbury 2014

it supports greenpeace, wateraid and oxfam, recycles everything pretty much, has a big solar array on the farm etc.

it's not perfect, but I'd say it's by far the best of any large festival in the UK in that respect.

Yeah and that's great but it kinda negates that by allowing stall holders to charge absurd money for food and turning the place into a giant billboard for consumerism doesn't it? That and putting ticket prices out of reach for a lot of people nowadays. I dunno I'm only going on what I've heard as I haven't been. I just think there's other things to worry about than whether Metallica should be allowed to play or no because the singer likes toting guns.

Discussion that has been done to death over the last 20 years.

Anyway. I was not anti Metallica, just answering the questions asked in this thread.

it's not out of reach for most, what it could be though is a choice between going on holiday and going to glastonbury - it's cheaper than any 5 night foreign holiday I can see after a quick scan of the web, for instance.

The costs involved in staging an event of that magnitude are enormous, a large proportion of which will be the costs of the fence, security operation and police costs, all of which are pretty much dictated by the license requirements, without which there would have been no Glastonbury festival after the vast numbers of fence jumpers in 2000.

I just think there's other things to worry about than whether Metallica should be allowed to play or no because the singer likes toting guns.
That argument can be made without denigrating the festival's ethos.

Early 2000s? I was at that one and yeah they are good live. Wouldn't pay to see them on a tour or anything but certainly good value at a festival.

Yes that was the one. I wouldn't pay to see them on their own but would've been pleased to hear they were on if I'd been going this year. I'd say the same about The Sun Ra Arkestra. One of the beauties of Glastonbury is seeing a bunch of stuff that you wouldn't usually.

No sure you can blame metallica for the cruelty of the yank government.

You can blame Hetfield for being a fucking hillbilly which he most certainly is. He's an NRA member who loves shooting animals. This is nothing new.

Why can't I find Glasto coverage on the bbc tv - have virgin tv and menus and info say its on BBC red button 1 and 3 channels - but there is only football now. What is happening? I want to see Dolly...

Myself and a mate were saying earlier how we have different channels on the red button despite both being on Virgin.

I seem to be unique in that I can never hear the anguished cries of the spirit of Glastonbury each time that years headliner is announced. Seems like they generally tend to get some big name in the world of music, which is the point of the pyramid stage.

I honestly think I'd rather watch Susan Boyle then that. So bad, comically bad, but I guess that's why she was booked. Bit of light entertainment.

Just watching Metallica now. Fuck they look old.
You'd look old if you made the shitfaces that Lars makes everytime he drums. He's like angry botox on the drums!

I'm more interested in Robert's bass technique. How do you play slung the bass that low without your wrists locking up?

Maiden wont' play Glasto (bless 'em but they are on their last legs I think). Brucey Bruce thinks it's too middle class. He's also a massive tory arsetwat.

James Hetfield wittering on about how finally they've got heavy rock/metal at Glasto...... I saw nine inch nails there in 1999
