Glastonbury 2014

Riggers surely.
Yep. Wellies are not built for walking, and there is a *lot* of walking at Glastonbury. In anything up to mudbath conditions, walking boots or riggers will do just fine. Action sandals if it's dry. Once it floods, just stick your feet in bin bags and rubber band them to your calves (but remember to remove them regularly to let your feet breath).

I'm sure I had trenchfoot after 2007(?)

Yeah that was grim. Last time for me.

The only time I've seen trench foot was here on a bloke who'd gaffered his feet into carrier bags. It's really not sensible.

Long shot I know but Mrs Frank is currently stranded outside the gate after the people she was supposed to be volunteering for fucked her off at the last minute and told her she didn't have a ticket. She has no car and no money to travel home. If there's anyone who can help her in any way please let me know

Yep re walking. I had a pedometer on last year and averaged 10 miles a day. Did 17 miles on the Saturday I think. Wellies just ain't practical for that.

Also worth bearing in mind that even if it does piss it down, the ground is currently as dry as a bone. On years when there's been a mudbath it's generally been raining in the weeks leading up to the festival. It will be fine :)

does she have a tent?

tell her to find the main crew gate security, and ask them if there's an overnight holding area she can camp in until she can sort things out in the morning, that way it will at least give some time for other urbs on site to see the post and see if there's anything can be done to help.

I think the main gate is closed for the night but the pedestrian gates are still open. She has a tent but nowhere to pitch it, and she's obviously pretty heartbroken. Hopefully she'll find some other people in a similar pickle and team up with them for tonight at least.

In the meantime I'm sat here a very long way away planning an extensive and bloody war against the people who have stitched her up like this

Honestly don't know what to suggest with this one, have only ever really dealt with probs inside the fence. Initial thought would be to send a tweet to @glastofest explaining her urgent predicament.

as I said, ask if theres' a night time curfew area for staff to camp up in a secure area (ie not inside the festival itself) who're struggling to sort their entry passes out late at night.

I'm sure there will be somewhere, as there will be dozens of times when people arrive too late to get hold of whoever is supposed to be sorting their entry out. It's usually just a fenced off bit just inside one of the gates.

eta or if not an official one, then overnight security will probably just allow them to camp near the entrance or something, as long as they know what they're doing and why - if asked in the right way.

Might be best to just say that she's struggling to get hold of the people to sort the tickets out or something for now though, or actually maybe honesty is the best policy in case security do manage to get hold of the person who's let her down. Glastonbury should have a duty of care to their volunteers, even the ones who've been led down there on a wild goose chase.

This has been passed on to Mrs Frank, many thanks :)

better to go for the honesty policy thinking about it, more chance someone might find out about it who's just been let down by one of their team members or something, plus it'd really not go down well if they do get hold of the team leader and find that she's lied to them.

Oh dear. That's pretty rotten. The gates close at 10 immic, which one is she outside? If she can put her tent up in a sin bin until tomorrow she'll be in a better frame of mind. If she's on the blue route - so pgb or c she could try getting to the oxfam campsite to ask if she can pitch near them. They may say no.

It seems Mrs Frank has encountered someone else who also turned up thinking he would be volunteering with the same people as her and is also stranded on the rong side of the fence. She's chatting to security about what's happened and seems in pretty high spirits considering.

I have to work with these clowns as well, so I will have plenty of opportunities to make their lives a fucking misery and make sure everyone knows what a shit shower they are.

I really think you should name and shame!

I hope this turns out to be a positive glastonbury anecdote rather than a saga for them.

terrible people! Name and shame. I hope things work out for her :)

I will hold off on the naming and shaming until there's definitely no chance of them getting Mrs Frank into the festival. Last I heard (3am) she was still waiting for one of them to come to the gate and talk to her about it.

Hope she gets sorted SpookyFrank .

Right we're all packed and off in an hour to Glastonbury town :)

A reminder for anyone who fancies it - meet up at 3pm Thursday by the Cider bus. I will wear a bright yellow top to attract people, unless it's raining in which case I'll have on a purpley-pink anorak :/ :D
