Glastonbury 2014

Mrs Frank update; she's secured a lift home for tonight, after three solid days stranded outside the gate. The people she's supposed to be working for are sending a car to pick up three of their volunteers (one of whom is the girl who took the ticket Mrs Frank was supposed to have) who are out of action until further notice due to excessive consumption of drugs and booze, and they've kindly (hah!) offered to bring Mrs Frank home as well. They had told her last night that she'd be able to come in and work in place of one of the dropouts, but then changed their minds yet again.

She's been staying at the oxfam stewards camp where they've been very kind to her, keeping her fed and watered and charging her phone etc, and they even did everything they could to get her into the festival as an oxfam volunteer.

Once she's safely home and the muppets who left her in this situation can do no further damage I will name and shame them here and anywhere else I can think of in attempt to further scupper what's left of their business (yeah, it's a business running on volunteer labour, don't ask) now that half of their workforce is out for the duration.

Thanks for all the advice free spirit, Gerry1time and wiskey.

Please do, so we can all spread the love, too. Hope she's ok when she gets home, apart from obvious disappointment.

Just learned that Ruddy Yurts was supposed to be playing the West Holts stage this year. What a shame, it would have been his first appearance since '84 and his big fall-out with Morrissey.

SpookyFrank Fucking hell man, what utter cunts. Let me know if you need contact details for festival organising people you can send detailed letters to about this. It's the sort of thing Michael would be seriously upset about I suspect.

Just seen some of the pics. My god. I went to a wet glasto a few years ago, was fucking awful. There was no escape from the mud. My sympathies for the people there. I remember trying to look on the bright side but fucking hell it was shit. It was the year Paul McCartney headlined too, just to make things even worse.

Looking at the rain radar I'd say there is a big lump of heavy stuff coming glastonburys way, heavier than whats been falling so far this morning. It might change shape or intensity but at the moment it looks set to last an hour or so and will really ramp up the mud bath.

edited to add that if this rain radar is highly accurate, you have a very limited window of opportunity to make any preparations, the intensity of rain will pickup anytime from right now to the next 10-20 mins.

Well thats the main blob of rain pretty much done. You'll likely get some more on and off, but nothing as intense and sustained as what you've just had is showing up yet.

Umm actually the rain hasn't been a problem so far the ground has soaked it up mostly although it's just started again.

Yep, it's a little damp, but not noticing significant mud just yet. That won't stop the Daily Mail reporting 'Glasto mudbath shocker' though, and how it will affect tent prices in the Pilton area.

Looking out the window now there's a glint of sunshine trying to break through after the rains been hitting it all morning. Hopefully it won't get too bad too soon. The sun can dry up mud in a few hours if it gets a break.

Paul Mc Cartney was amazing! I remember all my gang were off to see Chemical Brothers and i went to see Paul on my own. Brilliant gig while peaking on pills and surrounded by all the guitar fans, there was a blast of startling purple fireworks during Live and Let Die - incredible!

i can't remember what i went to see to avoid mccartney. was probably as far away as possible. probably wasn't chemical brothers unless i was on a lot of drugs when the idea came up.

Basement Jaxx? Sister Sledge? Zero 7? Toots & Maytals? Hothouse Flowers? One Giant Leap? London Dust Explosion?

i saw toots and the maytals one glastonbury, they must have been headlining on the jazz world stage, it was pissing with rain and ankle deep in mud. i was wearing head to toe waterproofs and drinking neat rum. in the end it became too much for me so i sat in the mud cuddling my rum and rocking vaguely along with the reggae. that might have been what i was doing.

Oh blimey looking at the radar I think Glasto is about to get a brief but rather intense thunderstorm, or ex-thunderstorm.

Aha, I've only just started radar watching again so I missed that earlier activity, or my map is out of sync with the actual location of the festival. Either way the thunderstorm stuff for that area aint quite over yet.

I hope the people deciding when it is safe to continue have access to one of the free or cheap radar & lightning maps available online so they don't stop the performances for longer than necessary. As soon as that narrow thunderstorm has passed (Im not there, has it gone yet? The radar lags behind a little) that should be it for electrical storm activity for now.

IME once Glastonbury's muddy, it's muddy for the duration. Only exception was 1990 when it tipped down on Thursday night but baking sun for the rest of the weekend sorted it out.

the production office will probably have good software, access to met office data and their own weather station(s)
