Glastonbury 2014

Ah yeah, that way in's usually easier, I can just never be arsed to walk all the way round to get to it. My favourite was a few years ago, when I had a stack of laminates, and someone had given me a fake one they'd created to advertise their band's onsite shows. They'd printed 'Absolutely Appealing Acoustic' on it, but made the first letter of each word huge so it read 'AAA'. I got to an entrance to the late night area, and was trying to convince security that with the amount of laminates and wristbands I had, and given how knackered I was with work still to do, they should let me through.

They were having none of it, until their supervisor clocked me and came running across saying "It's alright lads, he's got a triple A, let him through now!". I was completely bemused by this until I got through the other side, then realised the best pass out of all of them was the one that wasn't a pass at all. I love this festival. :D

West Holts bar is epic. Tagging William of Walworth, for no apparent reason.

We were camped up that end so wasn't too much hassle. If I was camped up off site in crew camping I'd probably think twice tbh :D

I had a similar experience with a ropey AAA behind the pyramid about 8 years ago :D

Pretty sure Maceo's was open long before the festival opened last year. It was packed on the Sunday night before the festival anyway.

What bars may be open before the Tuesday is irrelevant because they are not staffed by WBC or Avalon Volunteers.

WBC Volunteer staff arrive on the Tuesday by Coach and so does most of the Avalon Volunteer staff while the WBC will allocate some Volunteer staff working Tuesday evening I have never heard of Avalon asking any Volunteer to work Tuesday evening.

Maceo's is not a bar run by the WBC or Avalon

Yeah, interstage is tougher than it used to be for sure. Then again, it's only any use as a cut through anyway. Every year I try to enjoy having a pint there, and fail. If I wanted to feel like I was in London, I'd just go there.

I live in London and it's not my cuppa either. It's only impressive if you're the sort of person who likes going to celeb parties and being chatted up by a minor cast member of Eastenders tbh. As a cut through however, it's enormously useful :D

The only good thing about it used to be Strummerville, but that moved out into the main festival after Joe died, so there's nothing there for me any more. The minor celebrities thing is fun though. Every year a bunch of us try to fuck with it by dressing one person up like some form of celeb, then walking briskly through the area with someone else playing a bodyguard shouting into a walkie talkie. Best was when we got a couple of other people with decent long lens cameras to rush up and start photographing our 'celeb', at which point some other genuine paps joined in too. :D

Interstage is a cultural wasteland and anyone who actively blags their way in and then wants to stay there deserves to be run over by an arctic

Also this ^^^

It appears that By searching Glastonbury 2014,on the shelter site you can register from today.

Maceo's was ace last year on the Sunday before it opened. I have very hazy memories :D

And yeah, interstage area is awful. Other backstage bits better because they are inhabited by people with souls

Maceo's was probably my highlight of the SE corner, nice crowd, nice booze (lots of different bourbons) , never packed and a rocking DJ.

Maceo's is consistently great and as it's the crew bar at Bestival I get more than one go at it

Also good for running into people :D Bumped into you and dooby there and a load of non Urban mates on another night.

We became aware of Maceos/Block 9 last year, but had no idea that bar was open as early as that :D

West Holts is later to get itself open, but it rocks as well :)

Sorted out our applications today -- all done and dusted and ready to be posted tomorrow -- for some reason the on line version of our forms didn't work, so we had to fill in the backup printouts.

Those'll be in the old style post tomorrow morning :) :)

Kinnell, that'll be a mahoosive increase in crew numbers, if Mendip go along with that plan

ETA : Various areas will have to open some more bars during the pre-Wednesday buildup :p :D

Made a bit of a cockup. Colleague overheard me telling someone I'd registered with Shelter now she has too and said to me something like "what happens in Glastonbury stays in Glastonbury"

I want to get away from work for a week dammit!

You can lose her ...

(email them and ask to be on opposite shifts ;))

Some confirmations officially added, these are all already known about I suppose but there you have it :

Glastonbury official site said:
Confirmed Glastonbury 2014 acts so far : Arcade Fire • Dolly Parton • Lily Allen • Disclosure • Blondie

Oh yes, I know all about Avalon. None too impressed with the limited, much reduced Ale choice (fairly dull standards) at the so called 'Real Ale Tent' in Acoustic last year. Which in previous fests had stacks of choice, but not so last year ... :hmm: :(

Right I will hold up my hand here as I cant stand Real Ale but I will find out why they reduced the selection although I could make a bloody good guess why as real ' Real Ale ' is a right pain in the arse to transport and manage correctly.

The Old Red Flag used to have a lot more background staff than any other bar.

I like the changes they have made but they don't market it as a 'Real Ale Tent' any longer so I can fully appreciate why Avalon has made the changes but I am looking at it from a Bar Operation side and not as a Real Ale drinker.

Did you get a place with Oxfam?
Didn't bother trying with them in the end as the Shelter work looks pretty good. I might give it a go next year as it would be handy to get on the pre-release for past workers, but didn't want to dick Shelter around.
