Glastonbury 2011

That one way system while I see the logic of it and probably? the necessity too, sounds like it could be a right pain in the arse tbh.

:hmm:

Await paolo's news re crew access with interest ...

Cheers Graham.

General note folks: There's going to be an epic one-way system for the late area this year. Between 2300-0400, the only access will be via a 600m track running from Gate C, following the fenceline.

All other access points will be exit only during those hours.

I was rather afeared that's what all those orange arrows meant. Like you say it looks like the backdoor from Dragon onto Shangri-La might still be open but if you want to have a snoop around Arcadia & the fields to the north of the railway line it'll be a case of get there early or join the lengthy migration route with the sheep. I hope in many ways it'll actually put some people off going. Been far too crowded there the last few years.

I don't go because of the crowds. Getting pushed from pillar to post and feeling like a sardine in a tin is NOT my idea of a good time. Its a shame, because I know Im missing out on something I'd enjoy - if only it wasn't so rammed. The times I have been I really didn't like it and couldn't get out fast enough.
On the other hand, because I don't go I won't feel as if Im missing out - with the little nephew in tow this year I'll probably have to head back to the tent anyway once it gets late. Every cloud & all that :)

me too - I hate being in a huge crowd shuffling along with no escape :(

Old age is my excuse :D

It's not as much the huge crowd (although it's bad enough), it's more being pushed to where the huge crowd is going, at their speed, regardless of whether you really want to go there or not.
Yes you can fight your way through but honestly, I have better uses for my time & energy than being shoved around in a crowd. I can get on the tube almost any morning I like if that's what I want to do.
I found myself there at about 9 (I think) a year or two ago, that was far better in terms of being able to move about at will :)

Interesting. I actually avoided Shangri-La on the whole last year because it felt too crowded (I had a great time in Unfairground, Block 9, Common and Arcadia (and Gorrilla bar to be fair). Watching footage of Shangri-La I felt like I missed out a bit tho.

What were peoples experiences of the late night stuff like?

My tip - (declares interest - I worked there) the Unfairground contains quite a few wicked sound systems and dance tents, which were criminally neglected at times.

The last time I was there, I glanced up at Shangri-la or whatever it was. It looked so rammed, I totally avoided it. And like mysterygirl, with my daughter in tow, theres no way it will be a late night stint there for me this year.

Spent the Saturday night there last year during Muse set - was great area to kick around while there was space. Think this year i will be traditional and go to stone circle after headliners finish

mr Beecroft - you intrigue me - registerd 2005 yet only 47 posts?

classy lurking no? :D

you had better present yourself at the Cider bus for examination ! :D

I thought the arrangements last year were very poor and there was one point when we were trying to get out against a huge flood of people pushing to get in, that was seriously dangerous and very frightening.

A 600 yard queue to get in should sort that out. But if there really is a backdoor entrance from Dragon there will be an awful lot of people trying to use it. Whoever gets to steward that has picked up the shortest of short straws.

just went a bit mental and spent the best part of £160 on camping stuff!

including this tent and this rucksack

btw millets are having an online sale this weekend. 15% off everything and free delivery. i priced some stuff up but still didnt think they were particularly cheap.

Hmm. I've never troubled myself much to sort out the late night areas from each other other in the last few years. In my mind they all get lumped into the 'rammed & un-enjoyable' category, and avoided. Maybe I should make more of an effort if there are bits which are neglected - sounds much more up my street! :D

53 sleeps!!

In my mind it's still 2 months...
I got the wristbands too - thank you so much for that! :)

Heh, no sweat. Sorry I didnt put a note in, was trying to send them quick and then ended up carrying them in my car for a week!

Did a bit of tent porn again with sparklefish today. The tent we are getting is massive, but we cant afford to buy two... one for holidays and one for glastonbury.

Hope theres lots of room in the new family camping again this year coz I think thats where we are headed.

Reckon you'll still be ok in Wicket FC this year. Some people will see sense/compromise and join you, but alot will still ram themselves in Cockmill I think.

Unfairground raves were never overcrowded, though I do know they are changing the layout a bit this year to try to get a few more people in. Arcadia was busy, but never felt overcrowded or uncomfortable to me. Loved the exteriors in Block 9, but wasn't overly in love with the club spaces - felt like being back in London at times. Had a blast in Bez's tent, but I imagine that's a matter of taste .

I seem to have got myself a way of getting into this

Do you need to have a ticket to get into the car park except the car park ticket? Or if it turn up and tell them i need to pick up my wristband as im working on the friday, will they let me in ok?

Will I be the only one wiht a huge tent? *gulp*

No, not in family camping you won't, fear not.
A couple turned up in a space station last year, would have slept about 10 or 12 people I reckon but it was for their baby, who'd just learned to crawl so that if it rained they could stay indoors & let the baby crawl about in the mahoosive communal bit of their tent.
If it had rained I might have joined the baby, they'd never have noticed it was that big :D

So I wonder where I was? It was properly rammed & it's not like Im claustrophobic or anything. Ah well it's not like it matters I suppose.
I also went up to the dance village for the first time last year, I was surprised at how much room there was. Perhaps everyone had sodded off to the other side of the site :D

I know someone who took a 12 man tent for himself....

it was a really rainy one so a godsend for the rest of us :)

Where are you picking up your wristband from?

Im not entirely sure :hmm:

That's the first thing to work out ;)

(I've never heard of wristbands being given out to crew without a ticket being handed over in return. The process is delegated to the relevant crew organiser, but the process is always there, afaik)

Thanks sparklefish and mysterygirl for settling my fears... Lets hope paolo is right and noone wants to camp in new family field!!!

49 sleeps!!!
:D:D:D:D:D

Its just a matter of whether I have to show an actual ticket to get in the car park. Once im in the person will come out and meet me and take me through.

You don't need a ticket to get into the carpark but you do need to have a ticket to buy one so someone will have to get one for you I think.
