Glastonbury 2011

Keith Richards was interviewed on BBC 6 Music 'Stones will tour in 2011'

from http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/news/20101104_keith.shtml

so you never know - will it be 2011 or 2013 ? - lucky enough I have seen them live on many occasions including when Brian Jones was in the band but it would be handy if they made it to Glasto as there has to come a point when they jack in live shows completely.

Someone told me a few months ago that the Stones were planning a goodbye tour. No idea where he got the information from though, Im afraid.

'Stones at Glastonbury' has been a persistant rumour in several years, I'd be very surprised if they moderate their notorious high financial demands enough to make the idea at all affordable for the Eavises though.

Led Zepp on the other hand .... ;)

Thankfully percy has a bunch of interesting musical projects on the go so I reckon zep is unlikely

U2 though

I love this pic courtesy of eFests :)

I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo looking forward to next year!

oooh great pic penni.... and me too!

just want to emphasize I did NOT take that pic! not quite sure who did - will search efests tomorrow to try and find out!

madamv - have we met? I think not and if so I should like to state that you had better be at the Ciderbus one evening :)

This 'new' ticket cycle thing seems to have turned Glasto fever into a year round experience.

I'm either lamenting the end of the last, or getting excited about the next.

It feels like there's only a month or so 'off' now.

Is it really that good? Oh yes it is, in spades. :D

We havent but I should imagine some ciderbussery will be occuring... I have my 8 year old with me for her first glastonbury so she definately needs to see the cider bus at some point ;)

Ooh maybe if I get invited ;)

I shall of course, be on here quizzing you all things what to bring beforehand:oops:

Oh hell, aye!

- Tickets purchased in October.
- Annual leave and transport booked in November
- Tranklements brought by Santa in December
- A couple of months planning and getting excited
- Testing new festie kit in March onwards
- Tickets paid in April
- A "warm-up" festie or two in May
- Then June is upon us

Only 240-odd days to go! :D

Open invitation of course :) We do sharing kettles of water, camp showers, the halfway hairwash and passing round various children between us all so they are all well cared for and we get to see whatever it is which rings our bells
As well as drinking lots of cider and laughing alot

Im seriously considering bringing my youngest nephew this year too.

and having always been a child-free zone I too shall be quizzing people on what to bring for kiddlies!

Paulo - are you able to answer a question about the other family camping (Wickets?).
I seem to remember it's fenced, am I right? Is it completely fenced off? Nephew has been to (considerably) smaller bike shows in the past - which he thinks of as festivals- and thinks he knows it all. He has a tendency to go and do his own thing despite strict orders not to. Im probably being paranoid but Cockmills being so open at the bottom with the Kidz field and the shops and then the circus and theatre... I can see me getting him back on Tuesday morning!! He's not really mine to lose, as tempting as that may be sometimes! ;)

Wicket was indeed fenced. From what I can gather they were quite strict about not letting unaccompanied adults in. Whether that extends to not letting unaccompanied children out I don't know for sure, but still probably better than Cockmill in that regard. And there was loads of space, so none of the Cockmill bunfight. This year at least, you could have rocked up Thursday at Wicket no problem.

Alternatively, attach children to bungee cords. They spring back eventually. :)

I've just this week booked my annual leave as well, and that's without it even being confirmed yet that my contract will be extended into June

Saturday overtime a possibility early months of 2011 at my place of work, I'm contemplating it just to cover most of my working ticket deposit price ... ie limit of 2 working Saturdays max, in 2011 :hmm:

Rest of time, far too many ale, festival type w/e commitments** :) :D

**and (recently, sadly) family-concern related w/e commitments coming up too ... :(

Thanks Paulo. I'll bear the fencing thing in mind then for Wicket's, definitely. It's a large part of the reason why I didn't take him with me this year, tbh. He's so independently minded!!! Capable too, to be fair to him but Glasto is way out of his experience, size-wise. And he really does think he can do 'it' on his own.
Cracking kid, actually. But don't tell him I said that!!! ;)

and meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
(and possible small person. The 'I can do it' attitude extends to carrying 'stuff', I've found in the past... :D)

Am I alone in thinking Glastonbury is too oversubscribed for its own good?

Hippy ethic or no, they are starting to remind me of clubs like the Minstry of Sound in the mid 1990s, able to charge what they like and impose ridiculous 'conditions' on paying customers. With the Superclubs, it was dress code fascism, with Glast it is being expected to buy your ticket in October and going through a ridiculous pre registration.

You don't have to pay for the whole ticket in October, you pay a deposit. I actually like it because it helps spread the cost a bit more.

I don't think the pre-registration is ridiculous. It has pretty much stamped out touting and tickets aren't selling on ebay for £400 each anymore. It takes 10 minutes to take a photo and register. A small price to pay imo.

As for the price. *yawn*

Yes it is a lot of money but it's comparable with other festivals that provide a fraction of the performance areas/acts/facilities etc etc

Why are you so bothered that you needed to bump the thread to make that insightful contribution?
