sadness. at the time of writing the immortal beyond fathomability soundsystem have been offered nothing more than stand-by billing. shall i bring a load of records in the off-chance someone else doesn't show up, or shall i say fuck that?

has anyone ever used the Silent Disco? we're supposed to be playing in there and i don't know much about it, beyond the basic idea. Is there one DJ for the whole tent or is there, as i heard somewhere, more than one and punters can choose which to listen to by flipping a channel switch on the radio headphones?

I popped in there last time round briefly and I *think* it was 2 sets of DJs and you got a choice of headphones when you went in. However, I was off my tits on pear cider so entirely possible that I dreamt it

It's payday today, so my official countdown starts now :D

27 days to go :D

(this means I also have to try hard not to spunk all my wonga before then... Next payday is Friday while I'm onsite)

Have you got your spangly tribute to Shirly Bassey outfit yet? I'm still working on mine :D

2000 was rain free for the festival proper. Baking hot actually.

But if you think about it, there was. It was 35 degrees for all the festival days last year.

Bring on 35 degrees again.

Word. There's no such thing as too hot.

Yes! It is fucking BALLZ! Sorry :D

Loads of people dancing out of kimber to one another, some people putting their hands in the air when something happens and others just chilling out. Its strange. I wasn't that boxed when I went in so probably didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. Eventually fucked off to some big tent where they were playing Orbital really loud anywya :D

Yup. My bloke has just come home from watching the footie to tell me he is leaving home at 5am on the Wednesday, to get there around 8am.

Bit keen :D

Yeah that's it. Loads of people listening to different sets it works but doesn't work. It only works if you're fucked :D

sounds quite funny, from a DJ point of view. we could really fuck people up :D

If I could mix instead of chopping shit together in DJ traktor and acid, I reckon it could be a very surreal experience. Say you drop something fat and heavy all of a sudden, half the crowd wouldn't react and the other half would go nuts. I reckon it would be hard to DJ as you're not sure who is listening to your set... be a gutter if everyone turned off :D

I forget how much the deposit is on the headsets - about £100 I think.

what, the LV one?

loads, somwhere, from about 5 Glastonburys and a shitload of other festivals

Yup, that's the one. Had a quick look on google but couldn't find anything, just talking to crustychick about it and getting excited :)

Do you have a link, sire?

different sets? that sounds a bit wrong to me. I do quite like the idea of the whole crowd getting perfect sound through quality headphones. that's got to be good if, as a dj, you pick and mix really well and give everybody a really good sound. I'm sure every DJ curses the soundsystem at some point. I've seen enough of them bent over the mixer trying to tweak the levels to get the most out of the speakers. if you can garuntee a quality sound for all your listeners - knowing that what they're hearing is what you're hearing on your own headphones, then that's got to motivate you.

My mate used to DJ at the Ministry of Sound, he was my flatmates' brother, and she'd get him to put us on the guest list. I have been to thousands of venues in my life and the MoS system has to be one of the best I have ever heard. The tweeters in the ceiling are an act of god.

Valve's soundsystem for Breakneck isn't bad either - bassy as fuck, custom built for that venue and DnB :)

The silent disco sounds awful, quite a lonely experience. Having everyone dance to different music takes away the point of a shared dancing experience for me. It must be like watching those people who gather together at a particular time in a public space, dance wildly to the music on their personal stereos, then leave. (They do have a proper name, I can't remember what the whole movement was called.)

I might pop in just to have a look – it may be very funny to watch :D

They had one in Lowlands & it was a very surreal thing to watch - loads of peole shuffling about in headphones & every so often a bit of a "woooooo" and wavey arms :D
