Glastonbury 2005

I remember my trip home from glastonbury last year. I was still a bit spaced from the night before, but somehow I made it back to london. I arrived at the tube entrance, only to realise I only had a quid on me. My shoes were completely caked in mud, shorts and socks the same, looking and smelling distinctly like I hadn't had a shower for a month, and I was begging people for some money for the tube home. :D

I got my Glastourbanites email!

Thankyou bees :)

Look I am not going to waste energy worrying about the weather - I will pack lots of alternative clothing but leave quite a lot of it in the car so it stays dry.

I always go back for supplies at one point or another.

There is a thread on the Weather Outlook where someone from Metcheck actually admits how unreliable their forcasts are.

I think we would be very unlucky to have it as bad as 98 and very lucky to have it as hot as 95, but there does seem to be something in the theory that there is a mini monsoon in late June so best to be prepared.

Ta for the email Bees! :)

Now - anyone got a lift for late Tuesday night / early Wednesday morning?
:D

have just had a free VIP ticket confirmed for me and mrs hektik.

wowzers.

will see you all there...can someone point me to any salient information as to how to meet you all (too late to start trawling through this thread which i have steadfastly ignored through jealousy)...

*bumbles off to book train/bus tickets*

I agree about being prepared (take all clothes for all conditions) as I said above, but in fact I'm actually more optimistic at this stage than to be thinking monsoon. The latest updates seem much more upbeat than that.

Not to say prospects can't or won't change  but a 1998-style mudbath seems pretty unlikely

for now

Oh bollocks, panic with the tent

My mate said he could borrow one off of his folks. Its only a fucking ten man tent isn't it. Don't know who the fuck he thinks is carrying that

received from aloud :

(just in case some of you miss it)

All tickets will be personalised and checks will be made at the gates comparing the information printed on the ticket with approved ID. If the ID does not match the information on the ticket you will be refused access to the Festival.

Every ticket holder will be required to present their personalised ticket, along with one of the following forms of ID - a new photo style driving licence, or a government approved photo ID bearing the PASS hologram, such as the CitizenCard. You can apply for a CitizenCard online through this link "www.processrequest.com" www.citizencard.com/glastonbury, or by calling 0870 240 1221.

Please note that to guarantee your CizitzenCard arrives before the festival you must make an application before Thursday June 16. All CitizenCard applications for Glastonbury ticket holders will now incur an 'urgency surcharge' of £15

Children aged 12 and under, and Child ticket holders, will not need entry ID if accompanied by the adult ticket holder

If you have any other enquiries click here to check Aloud's official Glastonbury information service

If you have not received your site entry ticket(s) before Friday June 17, please call the Glastonbury customer service line on 0870 120 0332. However, before calling please check to see if you have been left instructions by the courier company, which will have attempted to deliver your tickets.

If you've got friends that still need tickets all is not lost, as we have 5 pairs to give-away in a free prize draw. All they need to do is answer the question and submit their details before Friday June 17 right here
......

Take care and enjoy!

I like the whole scare tactic to try to stop scammers but when you get there they ain't gonna turn you back cos of no 'holographic id'.

Think of the queues!

Saying that, I'll take my driving licence

I'm sure I've wrote this before :p

How many days?... :D

They've put a helpful map in the downloadable brochure on their site. It's next to the campervan fields ;)

Talking of campervans, don't panic if your campervan ticket has the wrong dates on it  - the festival know about it and will let you in anyway. :D

Also, Aloud have fucked up and forgotten to send out the blue windscreen routing sticker to a lot of campervan ticket holders. Don't panic - you don't really need one, although they do work wonders with traffic cops when you're heading for Blue Route.

We didn't get our carpark sticker with our tickets either - anyone else got theirs?

Right, the whole "ask a different question every few days" thing went knee over nose (as was expected) so seeing as it's the last few days before we all decend upon Worthy Farm I figure I'll just post all the questions I had in mind and you can answer whichever ones you like :)

The Questions:

How do you keep things dry, and what's the best way to dry things if they do get wet? (Sorry William, but it is a possibility)

What do you carry with you when you go out for the day? How do you keep this light and uncumbersome?

What are your best security tips?

Glastonbury festival is a 24 hour affair, what are your favourite things to do/places to go when the 'official' entertainment is over?

What are your best tips for keeping warm, both at night and during the day?

That's them, impart your knowledge forthwith :)

a new photo style driving licence, or a government approved photo ID bearing the PASS hologram, such as the CitizenCard.
[panic mode]I assume (hope) that includes passports?

Not that thats going to help matters if I don't get my passport back in time from getting a Russian visa....

Poo...

Get a citizen card -AFAIK Passports aren't acceptable ID according to the website.

I had to mail off for my CC today - Costs £15 now but apparently they guarantee to get it to you before the day...

If you're a wussy city dweller like me then don't forget how cold it is when you're standing around at 3am... so take some really warm clothing. I personally get cold very easily so tend to pop back to my tent late afternoon / early evening to put some warm clothes on....

Pack your things inside plastic bags inside your backpack(or similar). This also helps seperate clean/dry things from dirty/wet things when you go home. Best way to keep things dry is not to get them wet. Have dry clothes and wet clothes, re-use wet clothes if they're still damp - you'll soon get wet again.

What do you carry with you when you go out for the day? How do you keep this light and uncumbersome?

A shoulder bag containing -
all possible drugs
hat
waterproof
lightweight jumper
water
sun cream
compact snacks

What are your best security tips?

Don't bring anything you'd mind losing. Carry all your money on you in a very secure place (money belt is ideal - you can get utterly utterly fucked and still not lose it)

Glastonbury festival is a 24 hour affair, what are your favourite things to do/places to go when the 'official' entertainment is over?

The stone circle is an all night party place, with lots of drumming, fire poi, random acts of weirdness going on. Lost Vagueness has organised events of all sorts throughout the night, and is the most 'hedonistic' part of the festival (eg. it never sleeps :))

What are your best tips for keeping warm, both at night and during the day?

As long as you have a light jumper and waterproof during the day, you'll be fine. Go back to your tent for evening eats/tea and change into more layers (with an extra one in your bag) for the night time. It gets much colder than you think it will, so wrap up warm! More layers is better than single large things.

That's them, impart your knowledge forthwith :)

Only too happy :)

Sorry, yet another I.D. question.
I'm taking my passport because I wasn't willing to get a Citizen Card and know this will be ok.
However my passport is in my married name and ticket in maiden name (long story) so will be taking my marriage certificate which obviously has both names on it. Please, please, please tell me this will be ok, I am starting to get the fear that something will go wrong.

Does it? Doesn't mention passports on the official website...

Passports are acceptable, but not incouraged. Hence why it doesn't mention them by name on the website, but it does say "or a government approved photo ID bearing the PASS hologram" of which a passport is.

I emailed Infoman who confirmed passports are acceptable, I know William and Tort have checked this out too.

It's fine. There was a thread on TOS asking exactly the same question, athough Infoman said a copy of your marriage certificate would be fine.

Thank you Riff. Can relax now and just worry about the weather. :D

have a good un peeps

my advice for glasto is try and enjoy every moment get around the site, its not just about music, go wild, but not stupid, i.e if its hot wear cream it can be a sun trap, if wet air ur feet regulary, trench foot is no joke! remember to eat well, you will need the energy.
P.S. If you see a bloke in his late thirty's sunburnt, with rotting feet dying of exhaustion say hello it's probably me!
