Glastonbury 2005

does anybosy know when / where chris liberator is playing? according to his booking agents (sufcollective.co.uk) he is at glasto on fri and sat, but had a look at the official site and don't see any mention of it....I presume the traveller field (the one at the very far end of the car park, miles from the glasto entrance) is a thing of the past these days?

Firmly dead and buried after the last mega-fencejumping orgy (2000) ....

they say they're there 24/7 - tho it could be a recorded service you get through to, I did.

We've been recommended, when calling them, to wait til the whole list of push button options has expired, then (apparantly) you get to talk to one of the actual operators.

Starting to get really excited now :) - Glastonbury's this thing that's about to happen, not something in the future that I don't have to think about right now.
heehee! Know what you mean!!
was chatting to a random bloke last night who will be stewarding, by the end of the conversation we were both all fizzy with excitement for the festival!! :D

That's the good vibe that makes Glastonbury special. Everyone there has been looking forward to it for weeks and are in an untouchable good mood by the time they get there.

Blimey, all this talk of practice runs with tents is making me feel a bit slack!! I am totally disorganised, don't have so much as a blim or a even can or beer!! :D ]

Untouchable even by the w**th*r??

Still nervously hanging on this coming week's upodates to the forecasts but I suppose that's just me ... mixed signals at the moment, some forecasts/projections are suggesting a possible upturn for the last week of June, while eternal pessimists Metcheck are still predicting frequent showers and crap temperatures (16C?? FUCK OFF!!)

The week ahead will clarify. Forecasts are about to become near enough the time to be more than halfway reliable. Will pass on any news good or bad ...

Sun dance everyone and pray for dry!! :)

Good luck - I've been away for a week so haven't got my tickets either yet. I'm sure we'll be fine. :)

<taps foot nervously>

<crosses fingers for everyone still awaiting tickets - stupid useless SMS twats >

I'm pretty much sorted Glasto-wise.

Tent was erected and Fabsiled on Monday

Tickets arrived Tuesday.

Stocked-up on beer and wet-wipes today.

Other stuff such as food and sun-cream been bought gradually over the last month.

Now I just need to top-up my clipper lighter and my phone credit, burn my 2005 festie compilation for ther car and buy some fuel gel for my eco-stove.

<skips :D>

Quick question, how long do those citizencard thingys take to come through? I've got everything sorted, just sending them a photo by email now.

I've just looked at metcheck (not the summer events bit, but a regular forecast) - check this!

http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/14days.asp?zipcode=glastonbury

I'm still waiting for the BBC, but feeling a littkle more optomistic............

edit - ooops, just checked the met office, and thats a bit more dodgy. Dunno when it was last updated tho

you know Will, I have a bone to pick with you

I've NEVER read so many fucking weather forecasts in my life :D

You've turned me into an addict  ;) :p

fuck me I'm excited

oh god, I'll peak too early

For those who are interested, I went to see Zion Train on Friday night. Molara said that her, Perch, Love grocer and Jah free will all be playing at some point... guests with Dub Dadda maybe? :)

to get you in the mood...

... dunno if anyone is interested, but me+mates did a video of glasto 2003 which i've stuck on bittorrent. It's about 280mb and xvid format (for the techies), but feel free to download it. Will be a bit slow for a while, but it should get you in the mood :)

www.zen71464.zen.co.uk/Glasto2003vid.torrent

be warned it'll be slow as we only have 4 seeders, all hosting from their home adsl/cable accounts. I'll leave it up for a couple of days though. Look out for the bloke trying to sell us a small 50ml bag of water for a fiver!

To explain to others : aqua has visited this monster 54 page Glasto weather thread on EFestivals (tip : ignore anything dated pre about 10 June -- last ten, ot three, pages only!)

It will leave ANYONE scarred, so aqua's reaction is understandable. Signs of positivity for Glasto towards the end of the thread, in some cases a LOT of positivity, but thats from the enthusiastic and knowledgeable but amateur meteorologists at net-weather, so the sunny Glasto vibes they're pushing are not yet confirmed officially

So it's still shredded nerves city over there, we await the update to Everton Fox's 4 week forecast at the BBC, (expected today sometime) with bit nails, chewed lids of suncream bottles, mangled corners of Goretex waterproofs, scuffed and kicked (with frustration) boots, etc. ...

Oh bollix, really hadn'tt realised just how soon Glasto was. Haven't sorted out travel (though am in the middle of trying to do that now), haven't bought any supplies and..... haven't got my ticket :( I'm pretty sure they tried to deliver to my house but on the card it said it was a package, not a letter, and I can't actually rememebr which address I had it sent to (uni or home).

Frantic emails and phone calls shall be being made in the near future....

Yes, that sounds likely. Lets go for it! :)

But if we somehow manage not to get there, there's always Ashton Court where a full Zion Train turnout is promised

visited? you've got me fucking posting on it :D:D:D

Like you, I'm refusing to go overboard with positive outlook just yet ... despite others' excitement over there.

Here's quite a positive one (updated yesterday) -- theweatheroutlook's 28 dayer for the South West

Nothing big on temperatures so far (which will please moose and you) but plenty of sun shown, and little rain except a bit on Friday and Sat -- less than 11 mm is not much more than a quarter of an inch --light showers only, if that, because they say 0 to 11 mm.

This soap opera isn't over yet though ...

Tell me something. Is anybody going to make any alteration whatsoever to what they take, whatever the weather forecast says? Surely we'll all take stuff for both fine and wet?

If the blessed Everton says there'll be no rain will everyone leave their galoshes and rubber dinghys behind? If he predicts only rain will no-one take parasols and beach toys?

I'm not THAT irrational ...

I would always take waterproofs and good boots, because even in the most anticyclonic, rain-averse, sun-friendly forecasts possible, there is always scope for late changes and occasional warmth-triggered showers .... this is ENGLAND after all :D

Just the emotional roller coaster ride I've been imposing on myself (each year, from about March  at self) is based very much on dreaming of another 1995, for the first time since 1995 (all 'sunny', 'hot' Glastos since then have been pale imitations), and more particularly, based on my extreme (some would say pathological) aversion against ever ever again having to experience another 1998.

I didn't take any kind of waterproof shoes in '03 though I guess I change it a bit yeah

tbh I'm not really that fussed, I'm more alarmed at how addicted I've got to the whole thing

After seeing the state unprepared people got into last year I wouldn't even think about going without water proofs and wellies - whatever the weather report. Things like hotpants and suncream only take up a little bit of room so would take that sort of thing anyway too.

Finally, Here we go!!

Everton Fox has updated (indeed TOTALLY REWRITTEN) the BBC four week forecast and it's looking pretty positive generally :

Monday 20th to Sunday 26th June : Warm, sunny spells for the South
Wimbledon serves up another feast for us on the 20th, and for a while at least, the weather looks set to play ball. The southeast of the UK looks dry and bright with sunny spells, probably the best of these through the weekend, although the temperatures here will climb and humidity may be more of an issue for the players after midweek.

Elsewhere, low pressure will still be affecting northern areas of the UK, so Scotland looks set to bear the brunt of another wet and windy affair. Rain on Wednesday could bring rain for many, but most of this will be further west, petering out as it heads eastwards.

The northwest and far west of the UK will see most of the rain again through the week
, and away from the southeast, the temperatures will sit again around the seasonal average.

Looking pretty good, so long as the two bolded sentences really do mean (sas they look as if they do, in context) the western parts of the UK that are further north than Someset -- after all, he keeps going on about the South-East getting the best of it ...

But please downplay my paranoia, it's looking better than for ages, and net-weather sources are starting to confirm that.

Good Afternoon Ladies/Gents-

A 54 page thread all about the weather!!!- We dont even get that many pages!!!!!!!!

Anyway why wait for Evertons update- The beeb forecasts are often very reserved and have to conform to certain BBC constraints-

I messaged Deadstillstanding last night as to the general theme for the opening of the festival- and after another set of runs things for the festivals neck of the woods look increasingly good-
I doubt many people want the Sultry heat and dust of 1995- so MOST will be pleased that things are beginning to firm up in terms of confidence for a Dry start with almost ideal temperatures topping out between 22 and 24C-

Even potentially as the week progesses the UK looks to become slightly more unsettled, but this looks to effect more Northern And Eastern regions-

So in summary prospects of almost perfect conditions for you festival Go-ers
Enjoy and have a great time-

I will post an update perhaps nearer the time for overnight temps and cloud cover etc...
Regards

Steve

theB, I'm not going to pay the £15 they charge for quick delivery. Just read the email and it says it'll take upto one month. I'd rather take my passport to be honest.

WRT the wellies situation

My hiking shoe thingys seemed to serve me really well last year. They got completely caked in mud, while my socks stayed nice and dry. Only problem was that they stopped at the bottom of my ankle, so I had to be quite careful about walking into >2 inches of mud. I think I'll buy some wellies the day before leaving, if it looks like the weather might be bad enough to need them.

I'm still debating whether to purchase a stove and stuff. The only time I'll use it is for glastonbury so I don't know whether it's worth the hassle.

My checklist for the festival is:

tshirts
jumper
jeans
other trousers
shorts
undies
waterproof coat/plastic thingy
socks
towel
wet wipes
bog roll
ID & ticket
cash/cash card with small amount of emergency money
drugs (including alcohol, 5-htp and multivitamins)
mobile
sleeping mat, tent, sleeping bag
flashlight
black bin bags
small satchel-type bag to carry stuff around
strong plastic stringy stuff to tie up stuff

optional accessories:
playdoh
pen and small notepad
random food
sunglasses
mini stove

this list may be revised...

Minimum Glasto Clothes:
2 pairs of trousers (keep one pair as dry and clean as possible for the journey home).
2 pairs of shorts (if it looks sunny...)
thin jumper
thick jumper
pants and socks to suit
1 tshirt per day
sandals
doc martins
waterproof
hat with brim

Back
Top Bottom
