Glastonbury 2005

I've been looking at forecasts last week.

Two of them for late June are pretty depressing just now :( :(

I'm not going to link to them at this stage, because forecasts almost two months in advance of the event are pretty ropey reliability wise -- weather can radically change over a ten day period, sometimes even over a three day period, so long term 'forecasts' are not generally to be taken notice of ...

Just general guides only -- taking no account (because they can't, yet) of North/South differences, the way a High or Low pressure area can move in unexpected directions at a very late stage. Just like the consistent longer term forecasts for Glasto last year were for hot weather throughout June ; as it happened, the weather turned poor (having been hot and sunny since Strawberry Fair) the week before Glasto -- unforecastedly.

Lets hope predictions turn better this time round. We're owed a hot one, it would be injustice not to get a non muddy one after last year, and on that basis, I continue to predict positivity ...

Just now feeling less confident about that though :(

can I just mention (for those of you looking for new tents n stuff) that Millets are doing a 10% discount if you're ordering for the first time online :)

aqua! miss mania is making you a 'special Glastonbury' bracelet!
bet you can't wait! :D
I can't wait for Mr Mania Jnr to look me deep in the eye and ask me, very solemnly, if I'm drunk. :D

Did he do that!

he doesn't bother 'asking' me! :D

He says he is the 'wrong' age this year and may stay at home with his brother

whereas little miss is so excited she never shuts up about it. She is reading 'Festival' by David Belbin and it is having a bad effect on her.

will leave it out ffs :D its only just turned to May :D

shhhh till june ;)

Yes you're right  it was just what with yesterday being such nice weather here, and me being just about to go back to work, and seeing those forecasts, and me thinking we're using up too much of our dry/nice weather quota too early in the year ... etc etc etc.

Will try not to check forecasts again for at least three days ... :p

I've just posted this link on the other Glasto tiockets thread in Community, thanks for pointing it out :)

Yes, I'm not that happy about the corporate sponsorship/favouritisim aspect of this, but I suppose it may help some people get tickets.

The ticket sale date is this coming Tuesday, 10th May. Only a matter of a few hundred (?) tickets so they'll get snapped up pretty quickly.

No info on that BBC link about exactly how many tickets, or about what time they go on sale, or how/where -- those last ones could be of vital information

Yeah, hence the  Distinct lack of info is very odd, if it wasn't the beeb I'd actually be quite suspicious...

Perhaps Orange users have been sent the info via text, or, almost more likely, been sent a text saying
Glastonbury tickets resale!!!! Exclusive 2 Orange users!!!! Ring this number for details*!!!!

*calls cost £1.50/minute, call likely to last the rest of the summer
 :(

Just thought, with all the ID stuff this year you may not be able to pose as an Orange customer using a mate's phone as Orange may use your mates' details for the tickets... :(

It's good that some people will be able to get tickets but not happy about the way it's been done at all  If there were any spare tickets (wondering where they've come from too, just cancellations or was this planned all along?) they should have been made available to everyone.

These aren't spare tickets Lord Cam, Orange has an allocation due to their being a major sponsor - it's part of the 37,500 (if my Math's is correct) that never go on general sale.

More information (already posted by me on the other thread on Community) :

I've been reading the relevant discussion thread concerning the Orange ticket release over on http://www.efestivals.co.uk, (relevant forum is Glasto Chat) and the consensus seems to be that yes, it would be possible to get either an Orange phone, use it tomorrow, then return it within the 28 day introductory/trial period (or however long it is), or (perhaps?) buy an Orange SIM for a tenner or however much -- this would only be usable in some categories of phone though ...

This is also relevant information :

Just spoken to Orange customer services. Tickets on sale Tues/Wed and Thurs 9.30 via WAP and orangeworld web site. Only ONE TICKET per transaction!!!! Only a total of two tickets will be issued to any orange customer.

So, maybe Orange are releasing them in batches, on Tuesday 10th, Wednesday 11th, Thursday 12th, but I'd go for the Tuesday just to be safe ...

Also, there seems to be a feeling that you would only be able to access the relevant Orange page through the WAP link http://orangeworld.co.uk/r/glasto/
ie through your actual mobile only. Paste that address into your PC browser and you'll get an inaccessible page ...

Ooooh that does not make me happy  The money from their sponsorship had better go on something reeeeally good.

Like finally booking Think Lizzie  ;)

Good to hear it could be possible for non-Orange customers to sneak a ticket or two, though it's gonna be an almighty rush  Using the WAP service is gonna cost a fair bit though isn't it?

Really not sure if I'm more happy or angry about all this...

More info ...

Posted by me in the other thread on Community :

No-one has been able to find out exactly how many tickets are being released by Orange -- the number is 'commercially confidential' information, apparantly ... :(

For those of you who missed an interesting, and very relevant, bit of Blues' most recent post above [ie in the Comnmunity Forum Glasto tickets thread], do take this on board :

In the real world, Aloud employees are being very co-operative and telling us to be around 9.00 May 13th. Yes, that does seem an odd date, and I questioned it too, but it was confirmed.

Obviously the people who are in a position to tell us these things don't want it revealed who they are, so even those passing on the information are reluctant to be named. But of all the info we sift through, each one of those three came in through highly trusted people.

May 13th is this coming Friday.

Cam, I'll get onto the ethics/non-ethics of corporatism  another time , but in answer to a point you made :

I get the feeling that the WAP link will only be accessible to Orange customers. Not to anyone with other phones.

it's 50 a day for 6 days (see the nme site)

Don't tend to go there .. :D ;)

That must have been leaked information. It isn't so very many!!!

But at least they'll be available each day from tomorrow (Tuesday May 10th) til Sunday May 15th, if that information is right ...

I don't know whether the NME story has just been edited, but they are NOW saying there will be 300, 60 a day for five days, from TODAY!!!

Monday 9th May to Friday 13th May

I don't remember it saying those details when I checked it before ....

I just checked the Orange WAP site and it said they were available from tomorrow.

A few things I've noticed at first glance:-

The new Dance area looks cool & well spaced out so you don't get too much overlapping of sound systems.

The John Peel Tent looks as though it's staying put.

The Crown has moved.

Avalon has changed again.
