i applied to green police (couldnt think of any other way of getting in :( ) but i havent heard anything - has anyone else applied and got in?
didnt make it to glasto last year, wont get a chance next year

:( :(

We haven't heard back from any of those on the mailing list that they've been sorted this way yet, so I assume they've not sent out notifications. Their site doesn't give any time-scales for notifications and requests for deposit cheques etc, but this appears to be the first stage of being accepted, and only if you're blacklisted elsewhere are you likely to then be rejected.

Aye, tis true, I just thought that was because the map was more of a guide than an accurate representation.

Lets hope so, or it's gonna be a hell of a trek to have a piss

I can live with those toilets being further away -- further to walk/carry water back up to the hill to the tent maybe, but at least it means the water will not keep going off, as it frequently used to when it was at the top of the hill ...

BUT!!!! I really hope one aspect of the 'representation' is inaccurate .... the place where the new toilets look as if they will be is pretty much exactly where the Astral Cafe ;) (dirty squat-rave ex-army marquee) used to be .... :(

Goodbye, old school rave tent .... :(

Unless certain friends can help ;)

Yeah I wouldn't take it all as being 100% accurate. I was sure that the Avalon Stage had moved back to its 2002 position until somebody pointed out it's been shown in the same position on the Fine Guide Map for donkeys years even though it's moved twice since. :)

P.S. Some important information about the posting out of tickets this year. If you were expecting Royal Mail, you'll be sorely disappointed! :( They are using a courier called SMS (Special Mail Services) instead!

If you are out during the day (i.e. most of us) you will probably have to make alternative arrangements.

Posted by 'robin' on the efestivals thread that Riff links to above :

If there is no one around to sign for them then you just have to go and fetch them from the local sorting office, which you would need ID for

What with SMS (a private courier company) making the deliveries, would the tickets still be sent back to the local (Royal Mail) sorting office?

We are rarely at home in the daytime, and need to know this ....

Oh lawdy! I've had dealings with them before with my passport. They take stuff back to their own distribution office and you have to phone to arrange another time for them to deliver. Last time I had to take time off work and wait. Sometimes you can go to their office, but needless to say, they don't have one int'sticks.

Worry not WoW
That toilet block is in the same place as it always was.
Have a "mothers look" at that map.

<looks at map again>

Nope, they have moved according to that map. Quite happy to believe they will still be in the same place though :)

well as the weather are shit at predicting I'll wait and see but I really don't like scorching heat, and many people don't too :(

But sun is good, just not cooker temperatures :D

William - what d'ya think of the predictions of a heatwave then? Apparently the met office is predicting well abouve average temperatures for June, July and August! http://uk.news.yahoo.com/050512/140/fimu0.html

That's a ridiculously unspecific news item. It doesn't guarentee sunshine anyway, just above average temps for June, July, August. Specifically warns that warmth does not necessarily equal sunshine ... :(

Could very well (or not! :) ) tie in with those gloom and doom merchants who reckon global warming will mean warmer but wetter summers

The BBC version of the weather warning story only mentions July and August anyway ...

So we are as much in the dark as before ...

Oh do think positively :p - we can live in hope!

This from the BBC ...

BBC Weather site said:
Once again summer is looming fast and the days are getting longer, so what kind of weather can the UK expect for summer 2005?

Summer 2005 - Latest Update May 2005
The Met Office's Hadley Centre produces global experimental seasonal forecasts for precipitation and temperature, to get a picture of weather in the coming months. The forecast for this summer (June, July and August) favours a trend towards average to above average temperatures in Scotland and southwestern parts of England. For rest of the UK however, temperatures look to be around average.

For southwestern parts of the UK below average rainfall may be experienced, whereas elsewhere rainfall amounts are likely to be around average. These figures however, are the predicted general trends for the summer as a whole and what we must remember are the individual regional and temporal events which characterise our true British summer.

BBC source

Which looks quite good, but not enough detail yet ...

Can't seem to find the three to four week forecast on that site at the moment, which could be useful come early June, if it gets reinstated. The BBC four weeker had a bad record last year -- predicted hot and sunny for the whole of June after Strawberry Fair, and only changed to a crap forecast a few days before Glasto.

But with any luck they'll (a) predict positivity, and (b) get it right, this time.

Just got confirmation of my ticket this morning , a locals priority through a friend who lives in Glasto` , its not been a problem before but buying by proxy gets me more worried each year , a large sigh of relief......

thanks for the reassurance - still quite annoying not to be able to make other plans in case it doesnt happen. their website is spectacularly unhelpful and hasnt been updated in ages. considering they must have had alot of applications to green police, you'd think they'd put up contact info or a site area specific to it. felt like a bit of an eejit emailing the Training manager and Volunteers Coordinator for the whole organisation, about greenpolicing! but i need to know cos theres G8 bike caravan stuff i want to get involved in if glasto's out.

It had been moved to elsewhere on the BBC site ....

BBC Weather Monthly Outlook

Not looking too brilliant for Strawberry Fair (Sat 4 June) just now, but it's not very detailed for late May/early June yet, and that page gets updated every Monday or Tuesday anyway. Keep an eye on it -- next update will take it up to Sunday June 12 -- dangerously near to Glasto ...

from their site:

ABOVE average temperatures.
ABOVE average rainfall.
BELOW average wind speed.

Well according to these peeps it's looking alright.

Ignore Metcheck (for now, anyway).

They're unbelievably uninformative .... and keep chopping and changing ...

aqua from another part of the Metcheck site said:

Correct me if I'm wrong aqua, but I think thats a general UK long term forecast for the whole of June?

In which case its lack of specificity renders it nearly useless ... (for now).

i wasn't trying to make claims about its accuracy, merely pointing out that the annoucement of a heat wave was also followed by increased rain

hell, I don't know why you're getting your knickers in a twist so bloody early :D theres weeks yet, you'll explode :D

:p

:p

That's fair enough -- a deluge from 28 June onwards for a few days, would be fine :D
