Glastonbury 2005

I've heard a very-likely-to-be-true rumour that John Otway will not be playing this year. It would have been his 12th, he's part of the Glasto furniture!! :(

Some traditions should not be interfered with IMO ...

Next they'll be saying Atilla won't be there :(

I wonder how long it's been around then?

I don't spend all that much time in the main markets, so I could very easily have missed it over several years.

I'm sure Urbanesimian will give us directions though :)

I'm fairly certain it was new last year. From Jazzworld I think it was first left after Yeoman's Bridge & then a little way down on the right but on the one occassion I did stumble across it I was a tad confuzzled. :D

art of fact might be very interested to hear that. i'll give him a bell.
Does anyone have a link to where they might be sold?

So many people are gonna know about this resale, even if it's not true Aloud are gonna work their arses off this lunchtime :D

My 'send to many' text button has been in use :)

BUMP!!!
Looks like the extra tickets are going to locals (withing 15 mile radius)and the disabled and are sunday day tickets, according to local radio this morning and they've already been allocated to some of those 4000 on the 'locals' waiting list.

However - these apparently are NOT re-issue - its a extra allocation of tickets approved yesterday by Mendip council.

has anyone applied for and recieved one of those citizen cards yet?

on the passport thing, that doesnt contain an address on it so whilst it may prove that the name on the ticket is the same there wont be anything to marry up the address.

Are you still in doubt that (ordinary) passports will be accepted as ID??

Because it has been stated several times on The Official Glastonbury Board (TOS), and EFestivals, and here, that passports, while not officially encouraged for security reasons, will be accepted as ID. The Little Chef (mod on TOS, and occasional visitor here) has confirmed it (he asked someone in the GLastonbury Festival office) and he will reconfirm it if I ask him ... this is the case despite the absence of address ...

For those worried about losing passports, or driving licence, there are very secure property lockups where they can be deposited for the duration of the festival.

Stig and I are taking passports :)

Cheers for this Felix -- are you a local then??

sorry for asking. i havent been checking this thread daily for the last 6 months to keep up to date and i certainly havent been spending half my fucking time on other glastonbury message boards either. thanks you for such a condesending reply.

Blimey - 15 miles seems a big radius - it's only a bit over 20 miles from my house in Bristol! - tho' I am a Southerner :D :)

Ah come on, no need for that, not quite in the Cider Bus spirit man! :(

I should have phrased it more diplomatically, sorry if it came over as patronising, not intended.

I've just been trying since about April to get over the message that these dodgy Citizens ID cards will not be necessary. Was a bloody hassle to find out I can tell you, and I posted up the results of my research quite a few times, so I got a miniscule passing doze of impatience that the message had missed a few people. Sorry if I offended you, was genuinely trying to help.

Going to Glasto a few times does that to you really, you want to spread the knowledge a bit to help everyone enjoy it as hassle free as possible. It's really not meant to be paronising in any way!!!

Have a fantastic time and see you at the Cider Bus, cheers ! :)

apologies to you to WoW. you are an experienced and wisend glasto man. i just have nightmare scenario about turning up with a passport and not being allowed in due to it not having an address on. just thinking back to last year when we needed a bank statement or proof of address thats all.

where abouts were the secure lock up things last year? they certainly seem like the way forward as i really dont like the idea of having to have an ID card. grrrrr.

No worries ...

Those are fair concerns, about the lack of proof of address on a passport, I was a little surprised myself.

But to double check, I'm going to email my mate who's an Oxfam senior steward at Glasto, as well as The Little Chef who very reassuring last time, but he didn't say anything about the address aspect ... I'll ask him about that.

Replies to be posted when they come in ...

Well, if passports are good enough for Stig and William who seem to know a lot about these things, I'm taking mine. The ID cards are to show you're over 18 in the pub and nothing more sinister than that but still, at my age I'm not bothering with that mullarkey.

This year I'll try to get to the cider bus for the U75 meet up rather than spending the whole first day co-ordinating people arriving at our campsite.

:) L

Is that a new radius, or has it always been 15 miles??

Its always been certain postcodes that are classed as local - I think its probably about a 15 mile radius anyway. All I know is that it doesn't include me! The list of towns classed as 'local' are:

Glastonbury, Street, Wells, Shepton Mallet, Ditcheat, West Bradley, Baltonsborough, Parbrook, Butleigh, West Pennard, North Wootton, Croscombe, Dinder, Dulcote, Ashwick, Oakhill, Cranmore, Stoke St Michael, Doulting, Evercreech, Binegar, Elm, Wraxall, Stoney Stratton, Lamyatt or Milton Clevedon.

Addresses on ID

Just to clear up on the acceptability of ID, your address isn't the key issue this year. It's simply whether the name on the ticket matches that on one of the acceptable forms of ID with your mugshot. Hence Passports are acceptable although not encouraged.

btw the official word is that expired passports aren't acceptable but personally I can't imagine anybody being turned away if the picture is definitely you even if it is a rather younger version. :D

Have a look at a copy of the site map and look for the keyhole symbols. There's about 10 of them dotted around the site. Large steel cages inside marquees. Free to use but run by volunteer groups so a donation would be nice.

Some of the "PASS" hologrammed ID that is acceptable doesn't have addresses on at all, (like blueslet's, who already had one :) ) so passports are no worse in that respect. It's as you said earlier, the police don't want it encouraged for passports to be brought along, so TOS isn't encouraging it :)

Does anyone know anything about when the PASS Hologram was introduced into passports?? Or indeed what the hell the Pass hologram is?

My passport was renewed in September 2000.

Stig's expired in March, but she is going to take the 'gambler's method' in keeping with old traditions ;) :D
