Food Shortages

Possibly , the lads in the local shops always had stuff during the last panic buying.

The ones near me use Bestway Cash and Carry for most of their stock, (I use it for work), Bestway had most stuff through the height of panic buying. Even bog roll.

Just been to Morrisons. Cars queuing for petrol.

Shop well stocked, a bit low on some types of cheese and no fruit juice. :(

Why are the people not washing their cars even more than normal, seeing as they are all at the petrol station anyway? are they all thinking its the end of the world so who cares if the car's not shiny? strange.
They are not driving much or can't drive so it doesn't matter if it's dirty as few people will see it.
Fwiw I washed and polished two of ours yesterday, at home, with a bucket and sponge. 👍

Looks as though the TopCat experience of shopping still, just applies to the majority of those asked by the ONS, but I suspect the numbers will worsen markedly if the fuel crisis compromises supply chain movement:

Shops not having the stuff I need occurs most weeks even during normal times, usually go to Aldi and lines can disappear for months at a time, or they do that stupid thing where goods are shipped to the store in mixed packs so you just end up with a shelf full of red fruit tea and no peppermint or camomile as they are more popular and sell out.

I‘ve just remembered I have an almost full 5 litre can of petrol in the shed at work for the old leaf blower (recently replaced with an electric one). Time to get it on gumtree…
(my car is a diesel sadly)

I dunno, maybe all those deliveries of Christmas crap that clutter up shops from September onwards could be postponed until the beginning of December? Thus freeing up some drivers to deliver actual food and stuff. Just a thought.
Too late for that. From a shortbread shop in Aviemore last week who said Christmas stuff was already flying off the shelves to the small coop today who had at least half a dozen Christmas magazines amongst other things.

The Xmas crap excess is a major contributor to this crisis - but try telling them that.

It might be ineffectual but think of how it could bring people together.

Maybe the government could abolish taxation and instead accept sponsorship to say things like "Whatever you do, there is no need to panic buy cheese flavour Doritos. There is a plentiful supply and we're going to use the army to make sure stocks remain high."

Ah. Make a cup of tea and give me a shout and I will go through it :)

just consulted latest INF52. looks like we are both right, in that it's seats and weight.

although must admit that the particular set of circumstances where this is relevant isn't one i've ever had cause to think about...

when did they sneak the weight limit in? presume this was to stop people playing silly buggers and removing a few rows of seats from a larger bus to make it a 16 seater.

it's all complicated the number of changes there have been over the last 30 years (people were still getting PSV licences and badges when i started in that line of work) - and what's worse is everyone remembers a different combination of bits of law that may or may not be obsolete, or has an out of date copy of INF52 to hand...
