England Cricket 2022

and a hat trick :D 162-9 with two balls left

last couple were close to a 6 though do have to say that.

This is why averages in t20 don't mean much.

Well done Windies. Out-death-bowled/batted in the end. England still a decent unit but the death bowling has been poor.

In other news Tim Bresnan has retired from all cricket. He says this is down to his body, which considering he smokes (or used to at least) is not surprising. Though I do wonder of the racism allegations played a role in his decision.

We’ve had a Garlic Naan ,
We’ve had a butter naan,
We’ve had a plain , we’ve had a keema too’
But our favourite Naan , is Tim Bresnan
all because he hates the convicts too

Ashey Giles sacked by a group of people who can't be sacked but should be sacked for setting up an impossible situation. That said, Giles has been mediocre in everything he's done in cricket. Shocking appointment in the first place.

The interview he gave in Australia was eyebrow raising; selfish arse covering and blame shifting. It was not the actions of a leader nor were the reports of him historically being particularly thin skinned.

Fingers crossed Silverwood is next to “spend more time with his family”.

Yep hard not to think that Silverwood and Giles should go but they were tied in knots by the ECB and Harrison. And seeing how the red ball decline has been years it is a little rich to have Giles predecessor as a supposed saviour.

First time I can remember Strauss getting any clog for anything in the press (other than from KP and erm.. friends). Will be interesting to see who he picks as coach for the WI tour and which players are picked (and why).

It's still unclear how his video got leaked to the Aussie newspapers, that was all very weird.

He seems like a bit of a dick so good to see him go. I hope Strauss has some kind of plan here. I can't actually think of any candidates. Jason Gillespie always seems to get mentioned for any job in world cricket. Not sure who the NZ one is and can't be arsed googling but he must be good and could probably use a pay increase.

Looking forward to watching the England Under 19’s play India in World Cup Final tomorrow..

Some of the names that are being mentioned are Gary Kirsten, Justin Langer, Alec Stewart, the u19 coach and Collingwood (white ball).

Kirsten should have got the job but apparently Silverwood did a better powerpoint presentation (!?).

I don’t like the idea of any Australian in charge of England winning the Ashes. In the recent documentary of the Oz side Langer came across as a bit of a penis. However, he has a hard head that may be a decent foil to Root’s soft touch.

I always liked Alec Stewart. However, I get the impression he’s not the sharpest tool in he box. Plus, rightly or wrongly he’s tightly associated with England’s 90s underperformance (even if he performed well himself).

That's Alec Stewart, whose Surrey won two out of thirteen red ball matches last summer.

Still, comes from one of the home counties though and is a jolly good egg, pip pip.

Surrey can argue, with some justification, that their red ball results suffer due to a flat batting track at the Oval.

It's not a coincidence that many of the recent challengers for the CC, such as Somerset and Essex, and before them Durham, play on dodgy wickets. Dodgy wickets at Lord's haven't helped Middlesex, mind you.

Figures for 2017-19:

Canterbury, hunting ground of Darren Stevens, unsurprisingly bottom.

Jason Gillespie was absolutely brilliant for Sussex. England don't deserve him. I'd have no problem with an Aussie in charge. I'd have a problem with Langer in charge, but because he's a cunt, not because he's an Aussie.

But, y'know, Surrey. Surrey, Surrey, Surrey. Stewart was a great cricketer. Dick of a man. He'd be hopeless.

Shame there's no black or Asian candidates but I guess that's because they all play football/become CEOs of tech companies.

No idea what he's doing now, but Mark Alleyne was a brilliant tactician when he was leading Gloucestershire.

Great at getting the best out of average talent, as well, and let's face it, England isn't awash with amazing talent. They could do worse.

I would certainly put my hesitation of employing an Aussie aside for Gillespie. A good egg all round.

Why Collingwood only for white Ball? I'd like to see him put his skills to red ball, it's not like he hasn't played at the top level

It would be a risk as Collingwood doesn’t have the proven experience of successful coaching at the highest level. The last couple of years have seen gambling on selection and tactics that has not worked out. A steady hand on he tiller with top flight success is what we need, not an all or nothing last desperate toss of the coin.

He's got a proven track record of being a top flight player in all formats, winning in all formats, had gone on to be a coach at county and international level. I'm struggling to see the risk

I actually thought Langer came across fairly well in that doco series considering the hospital pass he was handed when Boof rightly got sacked. Passionate and intelligent. And not afraid to bollock his players when they played like shit.

Look at his competition and their records of coaching international sides. Both Kirsten and Langer have the experience and thus both are lower risk options.
