England Cricket 2022

Well I've got in on with the sound down because my gf is working (grrr) and I've read nothing but first impressions are it looks like a road, so why the hell did England field? Plus it doesn't look like there are enough fielders possible for Leach and Potts. Or Broad.

Total domination from NZ in the end. They rode their luck with marginal lbws and dropped catches, but England didn't bowl that well and dropped four catches.

NZ would have bowled as well, seeing grass on the pitch at the start. Great toss to lose.

It's just a good test match wicket, and any talk of bowling first was clearly nonsense. The rest is just steady batting versus C+ bowling.

They really are a good little side. The commentary in the guardian this morning rightly points out that if England lost their best batsman the day before a test they'd be utterly screwed. Nz loses KW and still score 370 in a day.

I know I was wrong last time about the game being gone, but I think this one is already. You don't really lose if you score 500 in the first innings and they're well on course for that.

I'm just pleased no-one else has gone down (yet). As we all know, it can take several days before you test positive. I was fearing half the team might come down with it, as they were all at the same barbecue last week.

And Matt Henry's coming in at 10, with an average of 20 which isn't bad for someone batting down there. England are screwed here.

Pope dropped. After hitting two unconvincing top-edged sixes.

He could score 100 and still not have an average as good (as bad) as Lawrence btw.

It's a road. England really ought to draw this Test, though that may depend on Root again. Having said that Pope will probably score 185 and cement his place for eternity.

Due to the scoring rates of both teams, an England win still isn't an impossibility here. We're not yet half-way through the match. Get to parity and put NZ under pressure on a wearing pitch.

Teams can lose from 550 first innings. England managed it in 2006 against Aus after declaring (a certain S Warne had a hand in that). Bangladesh managed it against NZ in 2017 after declaring on 595.

Root averaging 50 again. Needs to get to 135 to keep that if he gets out.

It's been carnage since lunch. Old ball, four seamers doing most of the bowling, knackered.

It's a road.

Stokes playing for the declaration...

Tbf he's done it a couple of times in the CC this season and gone big. But was that a good innings or a bad innings? Dunno.
