England Cricket 2022

Stokes playing for the declaration...

Tbf he's done it a couple of times in the CC this season and gone big. But was that a good innings or a bad innings? Dunno.

Bad surely? He was being recognised for playing himself in and then accelerating when needed. No need to be accelerating at that stage (even if the bowling is there to be hit). England get to lunch tomorrow with him, they're on a par and it's a 5 session game. He gets out and there's a greater chance of losing?

The argument in favour would be flat pitch, old new hard ball, tired bowlers. Perfect context for going berserk. He's made a couple of ridiculous hundreds in the CC this season playing just like that. This time it didn't quite come off, but still 46 runs ain't bad.

And Foakes gets a life. After brilliance from both sides last match, the catching here has been shocking.

There's still plenty left in this match, I think. Lots of time still for someone to have a very difficult second innings.

ETA: Correction, it was a new ball. Nice and hard... :D

Fuck it - it's done. It's been great entertainment today and you can't ask for much more for a Sunday of Test cricket. Hopefully they'll be just about par.

Now that was a good day's cricket. Batted out of their skin and they're still 80 behind. 383 runs in the day.

Old ball tomorrow. Every chance of getting a lead.

Just about perfect for England this morning in terms of getting a win. It gives NZ a chance as well. If England had batted on to get a big lead, NZ may have felt the need to play for a draw at some point. As it is, I don't think they can do that. 0-1 down in the series, you feel NZ have to try to set a target if they get to that point. On the other hand, lose quick wickets this afternoon and panic could set in!

NZ bowled out on the last ball of the day with a lead of 250 would be tasty.

Amazingly, I reckon the draw is possibly now the least likely result. NZ could easily be skittled this afternoon. If they're not, I'll be very surprised if they don't dangle a carrot. And if NZ do dangle a carrot, I will be amazed if England don't go for it.

Really chuffed for Foakes for getting a score. If it works out with him the side, good times may be ahead.

Fifth day's never more than £20 anyway, even at Lord's. I went to two last year, including the humiliation against India. Had tickets for Lord's this year but that was never going to happen.

tbh they'll make it all back with beer sales. :D
