England Cricket 2022

Those from Stokes to Henry were fearsome!

And Mitchell come to that. Match wanker chatting is distracting me

299 in 72 overs.

That feels pretty steep. Those strange three overs with the old ball that went for 25 might make all the difference.

Somehow, despite throwing most of their wickets away, NZ have produced more or less the perfect equation for them to win.

Watching Trent Boult bat is always a pleasure. He's clearly got a good eye but he's slightly bonkers. His dramatic leaves before shouting 'no ruuun'!

And the flamingo still makes an appearance.

Anyway I hope the new England brains trust goes for this with gusto.

Atmosphere is good here. Never mind warm, it's prickly hot. This will either be a magnificent chase I'll be telling people about for years to come or a collapse.

How does Crawley keep getting away with being selected? In fact I think he's even on a central contract which must be a 6 figure sum plus £15k per test match.

And he's fucking clueless.

I don't think he's an opener. While I think batters should be able to adapt to different positions, opening is a specific task specifically involving judgement outside off and the ability to leave. Even a dasher like Warner will know when to leave.

That was a good ball, though. He could perhaps have left on length, but not easy. You get those as an opener. Trick is to go big when you get in. Crawley's done that just twice now in 23 games. That worries me more than this dismissal today.

I'd say slightly more in NZ's favour at the moment. Stokes is playing a very considered innings with the odd slog but appears quite reserved against his usual style.

160 in a session is a tall order, but 2 set batters and Foakes (in good nick) still to come. All 4 results possible - a flamboyant Stuart Broad "shit or bust" 23 off the final 8 balls to see it through?

For a pitch that churned out over 1000 first innings runs, what a test match

Credit to both sides.
Test Match cricket can be a bit precious at times...
I'm about to leave work and cycle home and will try to avoid result.. (will avoid this thread)!
Will catch up on Sky later.
Whatever happens - Surrey are doing well down in Somerset:)
