2016 Coup in Turkey?

Plus, you could find that you were, as a foreigner, allowed to get the hell out, but might meet airport officials or whatever who are not really au fait with things and think you are not allowed to leave. I mean, there could be a certain amount of confusion and nervousness around. Just possibly. :)

Trump and Erdogan! Can anyone see a real difference?

What are you on about now?

They are about as different as is possible for any two male human beings. Their background, beliefs, careers and policies are all completely and utterly different in every conceivable way. You've made some daft comments in your time, but this one takes the biscuit.

Of course there won't be any restrictions on foreigners leaving the country. Nor will there be any confusion about the matter.

Well, I'm not going back until I'm scheduled to. I am done with this crap. I really don't care if they sack me. They can sod off. Every day it seems to be getting worse and worse, I am unhappy in my work place as it is.

Two days ago the place where I live was sealed off -nobody allowed in or out as they were searching for escaped soldiers. I can't even feel safe where I live there. I don't feel safe on public transport. I basically stay home a lot of the time. So what's the point? I love Turkey but I have had enough of Istanbul and the tension there.

It's not about terrorists winning or otherwise.

'Advice from German consulate is that foreign staff ARE covered, and they canNOT say what would happen upon either departure or return'. So we are discussing that we may not be allowed in or out, if the police/immigration can get their act together. I suspect this is a way of getting rid of not only foreign staff but also any dissenting Turkish staff too.

It may just be a fire.

Tomorrow, there's a meeting of the security council, and after the meeting, an announcement will be made. Choices are:
a) death penalty back
b) state of emergency declared
c) election
d) ....

Reminded me of this:

Today we have naming of parts. Yesterday,
We had daily cleaning. And tomorrow morning,
We shall have what to do after firing. But today,
Today we have naming of parts. Japonica
Glistens likecoral in all the neighboring gardens,
And today we have naming of parts.

Erdogan's "restraint"? Wow, your Syrian chap is great, but in this case I'm amazed at his apparent lack of cynicism. I agree Erdogan will "crack down" (oh what a harmless little phrase for a LOT of prison and blood and death) but things have ever so conveniently played into Erdogan's hands. Does TS think Erdogan's new cracked-down-no-longer secular Turkey is a good idea?

I feel a bit stupid, as I reckon your Syrian probably has a lot more clue than I do what's going on, but I must disagree with him there. But he must have a fair bit of insight to offer, so I hope I can learn something.
I had exactly the same reaction. 'You have to be fucking joking.... But given who you are I should probably stop 'wtf-ing' long enough to listen to your point of view. But wtf?'

It's not good. But I don't think we'll forget in a hurry your pathetic cheerleading of the coup when you thought it would succeed, scumbag.
I'm a proud cheerleader for coups against religious fundamentalism & virtual theocracy. Turkey is now a dictatorship.
