XL Bully dog - discussion

I was bitten by the same dog twice, on two different occasions. Rotweiler. The owner tried to give me the, 'he's never done that before' speech both times, the fucking cheek of her.

She claimed she couldn't have it on a lead because she used a mobility scooter. That made no sense to me but if there is a genuine reason you can't keep your rotweiler on a lead, then you can't own a rotweiler.
You're not in Streatham Vale Park by any chance?
There's a Rottweiler owner there matching that description whose dog has run 40m to jump up and growl to fuck at me several times, just for walking in the park. Last time it was with another dog (dunno what, big sharp teeth things) and I was so scared, they were bith jumping up and snapping at me and my OH. The owners ambled over with the 'they're just playing' BS.

I said 'I don't give a fuck, if they come near me one more I'm calling Police' L. Now they put them on a lead - but only whenever they walk past me, but that park is used by loads of kids walking to and from school.

It's such a ridiculous breed of dog to own. But then it's totally unsurprising so many people have them as this country is full of twats who aren't fit to own a hamster, but treat ownership of a big fuck off dog like an extension of their tough image.
They weren't created for anything other than to intimidate and attack people, and to turn a profit. I don't even know if they're used by dog fighters tbh.

Doubtless if the laws become more severe we'll get more thick twats comparing it to the Holocaust and wearing muzzles.

It's like the pit bull crisis in the US. Shelters are full of them and they're constantly being passed off as nice safe family pets, only to be returned because they killed or attacked cats and other pets, or attacked the owner or their kids. And shelters lie and say the dogs are safe around cats or other dogs when they're not, or use flowery euphemistic language about how the dog needs to be the boss of the house or isn't a fan of little kids or whatever, because they're desperate to get rid of them. Some dogs spend literally years in shelters and it just makes them more neurotic.

Overbreeding is a huge problem. I've seen bitches with their tits sagging on the ground, it ruins their bodies. It's cruel.

Which is why they should just be put down.

I bet they compare muzzling dogs to mask wearing during covid

Releasing them into the wild will cause a danger to wildlife, plus some poor unsuspecting walker might run into them, so that's out. It's already happened with people dumping XL bullies in the woods.

Do spare a thought for the rehoming centres who were lumbered with large numbers of these dogs that then had to be packed off en masse to be put down, plus of course the vets that had to do the euthanasia.
I work at one of these places. It’s been non stop for the last 12 months, either through them being surrendered or coming to us as strays.

The worst is when they come in as puppies, as you can’t get them properly identified until they’re fully grown, so you end up putting 6-12 months work into looking after them and rehabbing them, only to find out that they fall under the legislation’s XL Bully criteria, and are therefore virtually un-rehomable except under very specific circumstances.

I’m not directly involved in their care, but it takes a toll on everyone. We had to do a 12 month old last week, still not fully grown - I helped move the body. It’s the closest I’ve ever gotten to one and it shocked me how fucking heavy it was, just an absolute unit of muscle.

Fortunately we have a lot of success stories too, which makes the XL Bully cases easier to deal with.

I'm sure we'll have loads of people mourning the poor doggy though. No doubt the woman will be blamed for provoking the dog. I mean, Jack Lis got blamed for Beast killing him because he should have been supervised or something.

Strung, it's scary how big even the puppies are.

The problem is that you can have two puppies from the same litter, and once fully grown, one fits the legal definition of an XL Bully while the other one doesn’t. A lot of our staff form bonds with these animals after looking after them for so long, so euthanising them fucking sucks. We do everything required of us by law though and do everything to make sure dangerous animals are not put up for adoption.
