Bezos is scum. Who knew?

I actually agree with his stated reason for doing this. He said that newspapers are seen as biased, and he doesn't want to give the impression the paper is biased by endorsing a candidate. Naturally, he follows that up with actions that say just the opposite by telling the editors they have to hire more conservative writers. So yeah, he's scum.

The EC reminds me of how FPtP has ended up here. Warped beyond all usefulness outside a very tiny section of safe seats.

Trump "winning" while being 10 million votes behind is a disgrace.
I always look for where the overt fix is in liberal democratic systems. Not the social stuff which is obvious (and goes in hand with the more concrete fuckery) Where are the fingers clearly on the scales.

They already tried one! I think it's a testament to the sanewashing of MAGA that this is not more widely recognised.
Trump tried and failed when he was the President. As the challenger, he is in a far weaker position. Other Republicans who may be MAGA but not GAGA are more likely to dump the loser and wait for the next round.

Personally, I fear he'll win because he gets a majority in the electoral college. It would be sweet but not particularly fair and pretty improbable if he lost the electoral college but won the popular vote.

If he loses hes in a far weaker position than he was in 2020 to try and overturn the election - hes not actually in power so he cant try and call out the national gaurd and use the power of the presidency etc. More like he try to delay some states declaring through shit-housery, cry foul and inspire the MAGA muppets to violence.

can always prep his flock of fools to keep lining his pocket for the next 4 years
because it was stolen again...

If that cunt won the popular vote and lost the EC, I fucking guarantee you the cries of a stolen victory will be strident, continuous and increasingly violent and hysterical in tone...
That lengthy Politico article (can't remember who posted it, sorry) goes into some detail about the tactics he will use. Expect more "stop the steal" narrative, badgering of state officials and mid-December being a likely time for violence.

True, but also his lot have been getting officials elected in key states who are on-board with the MAGA bullshit and who may sow chaos and confusion post-election day. Although he's powerless as he doesn't have his hands on the levers of power, he does have some powerful allies and an utterly demented and motivated hard core of supporters...

He's a threat to women, the transgender community, the environment, the global economy, and to democrats (small and capital "d"). Of course he's a threat to democracy.

Theres little doubt that the far right and Trump campaign has increased the lies and attacks on trans people. Apologies if this has been referenced elsewhere -

institutions like the Heritage Foundation spent decades incepting anti-trans medical misinformation into the public dialogue and creating a focus on trans identity as a core motivating issue for Republican voters.

It's little surprise then that the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025—a playbook that outlines what Trump and Republicans will do if they are returned to power—contains a number of far sweeping anti-trans proposals.

Project 2025 attacks the validity of trans identity on page one. It aims to confine expressions of gender and bodily autonomy to those necessary for procreation. All other manifestations of this would find Americans on the losing end of bureaucratic regulations and American law.

Its not a particularly long article, and hardly controversial even if some might feel theres been enough coverage of the topic. And dont forget Trumps reckless lies at the Moms for Liberty, where he claimed that schools were performing gender surgery on kids?

This kind of shit sticks. And they will go after the weakest, most at risk groups first before they cast their eyes on other targets of their hatreds.

I think that will have happen if they lose any way. Tucker Carlson said at one of the Nazi rallies, “if they say ‘we won’ you tell them ‘no’”. Trump denies the metaphysical possibility that he could lose fair and square.

What makes this time far more dangerous is that he’s primed his allies in the state and federal republican party and his lackey judges to do everything in their power to block a Kamala victory. And the entire apparatus are absolutely loyal to him now. And he’s got everything to lose this time, he’s got criminal indictments and a sentencing hearing hanging over him. There are no non-ugly scenarios.

I keep reading about (mainly female) Harris voters who are afraid to say so & are telling their neighbours and family they are voting Republican.

Obviously this is in red/marginal states & on the one hand is depressing that anyone should feel afraid to say who they are voting for in a democracy but I can't help but feel a tiny bit hopeful that polls are not accounting for this.

Yep, attacking trans people has basically been Trump's "closing argument," according to the Bulwark

In the past five weeks, Trump’s operation has spent more than $29 million on TV ads criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris for supporting transgender surgeries for inmates and illegal immigrants in detention, according to data from the media tracking firm AdImpact. That makes the topic, by far, the biggest focal point when it comes to Trump’s ad spending—one of the best barometers of messaging priority there is. By contrast, the campaign has spent $5 million over that same time period on TV ads on the economy, making that topic their fifth-most emphasized.

...On Thursday, Ground Media unveiled a study it had conducted showing that Trump’s first trans-related ad had not improved his political standing, but had hurt perceptions of trans people.

"What this demonstrates is that attacking the trans community isn’t just a weak and feckless political strategy—it’s a deeply cynical one,” David Rochkind, CEO of Ground Media, said in a written statement. “These ads weaponize trans-identity to sow fear and division, making our country less safe for everyone."

Yes, I think he is getting bad news behind the scenes from internal polling, and we are getting the fraudulent election crap being set up. He certainly looks defeated at the end of this piece. He is apparently limping too.

I don't get the video. All good until the final seconds where the projection shows Trump winning with the Electoral College which is all that counts at the end?
