What's the dirt on Justin Trudeau?

I'm hoping for an official coalition - I think the Liberals will be weakened enough to agree.
Do you not think that might not be in the interests of the NDP? You don't think they may not ending up suffering the fate that many parties that have gone into coalition as a minor partner (LDs, German SPD, etc) have and end up with a backlash against them?

In Ireland, the smaller parties in coalitions are known as "mudguards", because they cop the flak that the big parties avoid.

Though going on past experience, if confronted by mud, Trudeau would say "that's the good stuff, come to poppa baby".

It's certainly a danger, I hope the NDP abandon the coalition instead of their principles if need be - there hasn't been a coalition government in Canada for more 100 years but maybe the example of the wretched Nick Clegg will serve as a cautionary tale.

How significant a factor do you think this blacking up business has been?

Didn't seem to shake things up that much - people generally seem to think he's a bit of an idiot but not a racist - it might have helped the NDP a bit but the Conservatives have got too many racists in their party to win many votes from people repulsed by Trudeau's blackface past.

Today, quiet will fall across our land. Our one day off from listening to politicians.

My facebook friends have this plastered all over the place.

This election saw the highest number of voting in the advanced pollls ever.
This election also saw a record number of votes coming from overseas.

It really would be lovely if we got the highest number of voters on election day.

With a different leader, I would predict a "surprise" surge for Andrew Scheer and a narrow Conservative majority, but nobody likes Scheer so I think there's a good chance of a Liberal-NDP coalition, with Trudeau remaining as prime minister. Not ideal, but still hopefully the most leftist government Canada has had in a generation or two.
Well looks like Trudea will hold on. Does not look like a good night for the NDP even though it is possible they will end up in government.

Yep, not a great night for the NDP, but at least they won enough seats to hold the balance of power - and the right-wing "People's Party" failed to win even its leader's seat.

Trudeau has ruled out forming a coalition and says he will "take the time necessary to really reflect on how best to serve Canadians and work with the other parties," which is apparently Trudeau-speak for "I need Conservative votes to pass a pipeline project."

I had always considered the slur "c**t" as a British insult.
I thought we used "bitch" instead.
I was wrong - apparently the c-word is over here.
:(

McKenna, who has served as the minister of Environment and Climate Change since 2015, said employees at her office noticed the vandalism on Thursday, which depicts the word “c--t” in red spray paint over her face in the front window.

“I was not happy to see that and it was actually really upsetting for the people that are in my office,” she told CTV’s Power Play. “(There are) a lot of women who work in my office, they volunteer, and they had to see that.”

'Absolutely disgraceful': Catherine McKenna's office tagged with vulgar and sexist graffiti

The abuse she has been subjected to has lead to her having security around.

I find that really sad.

Trump calls Trudeau ‘two-faced’ after video appears to show leaders gossiping

In it, the Canadian Prime Minister can be seen chatting with French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Britain’s Princess Anne.

Johnson asks Macron: “Is that why you were late?”

Trudeau then says: “He was late because he takes a 40-minute press conference off the top,” which was a reference to a lengthy and unscheduled question-and-answer session held by Trump earlier in the day. However, Trump was never mentioned by name.

Donald Trump fired back at Justin Trudeau on Wednesday, calling him “two-faced” after a video surfaced showing several NATO leaders talking about the U.S. president without him present.

Trump made the comment during a photo-op with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

He told reporters he believes Trudeau was upset about him bringing up Canada falling short of the NATO target of spending two per cent of its GDP on defence.

“He’s two-faced. And honestly, with Trudeau, he’s a nice guy. I find him to be a very nice guy, but the truth is that I called him out on the fact that he’s not paying two per cent and I guess he’s not very happy about it,” Trump said

“He’s not paying two percent and he should be paying two percent. It’s Canada, they have money.”

eta: the 2% mark is required by 2024

Being eager and polite when speaking to you then talking shit about you with Emmanuel Macron is a very Trudeau move, would have been even funnier if they'd been making fun of Trump in French while he was standing next to them.

"We are LIVE here at the Canadian snap election and-- wait, what's this!.. It's, it's, BY GOD IT'S JAGMEET SINGH WITH A STEEL CHAIR!!

It's all going to be hopelessly lame and bogus, of course. But it would be nice to Mr. The-Son-Also-Rises get mauled by the polar bear of a snap election he called himself.

Has Jagmeet Singh ruled out forming a coalition with the Conservatives?

I went into the early voting station Monday intending to vote NDP but the ghostly hand of Karl Marx guided me to the Communist candidate.
