He watched Taxi Driver and wanted to impress Jodie Foster. :D

Speaking of that nut case who tried to top Reagan, these days he's been completely released from his hospital care and runs a youtube channel of him playing guitar and singing songs. Only in America! Comments alone are worth checking out for a laugh. 😂

First comment.

Dude you actually killed it this time!! Good job man!

So it was the CIA that was behind the Trump shooting?

Go on...

The American Deep State can't tolerate another four years of Prez DT.

Why not? Because of his opposition to the war in Ukraine.

Why do they care so much about that? Because while Putin is in power, they cannot get rid of Assad.

Why do they care so much about that? Because Syria is the heart of the Shia crescent that ends in Tehran.

What's the problem with that? The Americans are certain that Iran is trying to develop a nuclear bomb.

What's the problem with that? Iran will drop it on Tel Aviv.

Why should America risk its own existence, and indeed the existence of the entire world, to prevent Iran from nuking Israel? Over to you....

I could totally believe it was set-up, but it's also feasible it really was a lone lunatic. And it doesn't really matter, because the effect is the same.

Maybe it is what it is. A confused kid who might have had various problems in his short life and nobody to talk to, took a rifle out that day to make some kind of statement.

No deep state, no MAGA managed staging. Just a sad, almost inevitable daily event in the USA.

(Daily gun violence, that is)
Not so confused however to prevent him outwiting the agencies charged with protecting Trump.

The USA does certainly seem to have a never-ending supply of odd young men with access to guns...

I'm not sure I'd care to explore what goes on inside their heads.

Would be very interested in doing so. It might lead to some kind of breakthrough into discovering what causes young men to recoil from society, to pursue violence, to be unable to speak to peers or professionals.

It's all too easy to dismiss the shooters as nutters etc.

The daily gun violence thing is partly what makes me wonder if it was staged. The timing is too good, and the wound is too easy.

But I'm genuinely just wondering - it absolutely is equally feasible it was as you say. Weirder shit has happened.

It being arranged by democrat supporters seems unlikely. And arranged by some leftist "Deep state," etc - obviously no.

I think access to guns is a significant element in why there are so many troubled young men.

Guns are so very much a way of life in the US and people's attitudes to firearms is too gung-ho. Far too many people think that they are the answer to problems, rather than the root cause or a symptom... and also too many people use firearms as a crutch, in order to make up for some character deficit or as a manifestation of their personal frustrations.

The security services can take no credit for the marginal miss. No such opportunity should have even be available.

It's not the first time a president or candidate has been fired on. It was a marvelous opportunity for a confused young man, and now it's a marvelous opportunity for the MAGA party to capitalise on their invulnerable hero.

But don't think there's much more to it than luck and lax security.

That's a part of it, for sure.

But why do they want to access weapons in the first place, is it down to a culture that encourages gun ownership and gun rights over people's lives? Is it the ultimate expression of proving one's manhood?

Is it because, according to some on the far right, men have been emasculated?

Is it down to being incapable of talking to someone, anyone and not only online?

Has commonplace violent rhetoric inspired shooters?

And so on, ad infinitum...

All of these things.

The US has a very macho culture and what better way to exhibit that than with guns?

Think intense pressure to conform to gender stereotypes has a lot to do with it. And when someone falls short of that, the resulting feelings of humiliation and isolation can lead to dark places in many cases.

Even our very own Queen Victoria - Gawdblessher - had no less than eight assassination attempts.
